Overview
Casa Systems C100G is an award-winning CCAP solution that combines a DOCSIS 3.1
CMTS and an Edge-QAM in a high density, high availability 13 RU platform. The platform
and modules support the CableLabs DOCSIS 3.1 standard, and are backward compatible
Casa Systems with prior DOCSIS standards. Deployed by some of the worlds leading service providers,
Remote-PHY the C100Gs software defined architecture, industry-leading density, and integrated video
solution provdes capabilities provide a clear competitive edge in the delivery of ultra-broadband services.
CCAP features
from a standards-
based Remote-
PHY architecture
and gives service
providers a new
option for meeting
subscriber demand
with the least
possible change to
current operations.
10Gbps
Our solution consists of a Remote CCAP PHY Node (RCN) and a new card for the C100G
or C40G, the CCAP Service Card (CSC8x10G) for aggregating RCNs. In this architecture,
illustrated to the right, the DOCSIS and EQAM MAC functions are centralized in the CCAP
Core (the C100G/C40G located in the headend/hub), and the DOCSIS and EQAM PHY
functions are in a remote node (the RCN) closer to the subscribers. 10G Ethernet or 10G
EPON transport can be used between the C100G and the RCN.

Each R-PHY module supports 1.2 GHz (full spectrum) downstream and 100
MHz mid-split upstream. Service group options for DOCSIS 3.0 and / or
DOCSIS 3.1 are shown in the following table.
An RCN with 2 RPHY modules can support 2 service groups (SGs). Each
RPHY module in an RCN can have its own 10Gbps EPON or Ethernet uplink
and a standby port for 1+1 port protection. Alternatively, the RPHY modules
within a large RCN can be daisy chained together and connect to the optical
network via a single 10G port with standby.
Casas design takes into account the fact that service providers may need to
locate the RCN in locations that are not as secure as typical headend sites,
neither from an environmental nor external threat perspective. The RCN is
waterproof and can work in temperatures ranging from -40C to +60C. It is
managed through the headend C100G integrated CCAP rather than through
a direct management interface. For security purposes, this prevents change
of configuration or alteration of the behavior of the RCN through direct
access. The management/control traffic between the headend C100G and
the RCN is secured by IPSec to guard against man-in-the-middle attacks.
User data between the cable modem and the C100G is secured by DOCSIS
BPI+ protocol. Video traffic is secured by DVB Simulcrypt, PME, or PKE, in the
same way as in an integrated CCAP.

Key Benefits
Lower complexity, lower cost. Retaining the MAC functions in the headend
reduces the complexity and costs of the node. Specifically, reduced complexity
means fewer failures and thus, fewer truck rolls. MAC functions have historically
changed more frequently and more dramatically as a result of new standards.
Keeping these functions in the headend means fewer instances of software
upgrades across the network.
Continuity and simplicity. Defined within the CCAP framework, the Remote
CCAP PHY Node (RCN) supports all current CCAP services and can be introduced
into the network without requiring changes to existing Cable Modems or set top
devices. Further, from a management perspective, the RCNs are presented as
extensions of the CCAP core, and collectively managed as a single, large CCAP.
