2 OVERVIEW

AT61 is a software for simulation and analysis of IEC 61850 standard, IEC 61850
is a part of the International Electrotechnical Commission's (IEC) Technical Committee
57 (TC57) for vendor-agnostic engineering of the configuration of Intelligent Electronic
Devices (IED) for electrical substation automation systems to be able to communicate
with each other. This tool allows you to upload the CID, ICD, SCD or get the settings
directly from the IEC 61850 server, also allows sending commands, activation of general
polling, reports, etc.

Axon Test IEC61850 is designed to work in the operating systems of Microsoft

Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 10 for 32- and 64-bit processor architecture.

This manual provides advantage in the use of AT61, speeding up test for analysis
and simulation, making them more specific, easier and faster.

To the culminate the manual is expected that reach a great domain of the software
and know fully the features, both them tools, as well as them modules, so that can develop
their projects of way versatile, with great ease and success.

Welcome!

6 FUNCTIONALITY & CONFIGURATION

This section shows the Simulator tools, and how to use each of these.

6.1 LOAD CONFIGURATION

IEC 61850 protocol allow connect to IED for read and write configuration files,
The IEC 61850 specifies the usage of Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS,ISO
9506) over TCP/IP as communication between the IEC 61850 server and client
(device/IEC 61850 OPC Server). AT61 simulator load IED configuration by open SCL
(.cid .icd .scd) file option or discovery mode, to connect with a IED and load its
configuration.

After load configuration files through open SCL option, data model is displayed in
tree view with all IED information in the configuration file. It is possible load IED
configuration file using discovery option considering IED and simulator both are
connected in same network, and can be reached each other.

Figure 27. Load Configuration File.

AT61 allow validate configuration SCL file prior loaded, according to standard
edition version 1 or version 2, for detect possible compatibility errors. It is also allows to
export the data model of an device to SCL (.cid .icd .scd) compatible with standard
edition.

23

When a SCL file containing several IEDs, we can select one by one using IED tab,
shown Figure 28.

Figure 28. IEDs Discovery

AT61 simulator connect integrates the IEC 61850 Network and devices (IEDs)
using the IEC 61850 standard Ed1 or Ed2. The data of the various IEDs on the IEC 61850
network is read by the AT61 application, facilitating the vertical communication as
defined in the IEC 61850 Ed1 & Ed2 standards. Only the MMS (Manufacturing Message
Specification) based signals on the IEC 61850 bus are read by the simulator and given to
the IED client, by select Discovery options or clicking on icon , must specific IP
address of IEC 61850 server (IED) and complete parameters in the dialog box, then
clicking aceptar button to get SCL file and show it in the data model tree.

The SCL file containing hierarchically structured models of IEDs can be

imported into simulator AT61 using the Communication by Ethernet network

Once IED have loaded in data model tree, can proceed to the connection with

the server 61850, clicking on the icon , with connection to server 61850 this will
pass to Online, then read and see states of the variable, enable reports, run commands,
read files, etc. For successful connection, is displayed on bottom bar, message with IP
address follow Connected word in background color green, shown Figure 30.

polling, it is necessary to activate the reports, by clicking on report or icon to enable

and clicking on Enable/Disable report option, shown Figure 32.

9 CONTROL

AT61 simulator supports data objects for status, measuring, controllable status, and
controllable analog information. The IEC 61850 OPC Server supports data object types
for an IEC 61850 Device. The data objects are configured whenever they are imported
with IEC 61850 devices. The configurations can be monitored with Data Object model
tree.

AT61 allows you to run different types of commands defined by the standard IEC
61850 (Direct-Operate, Select-Before-Operate, with or without enhanced security).
Operation allows configure the Originator categories (orCat) according to test
requirement. The result of the operation is notified by adding a possible cause of failure
according to what was reported by the IED when this occurs.
