Daily Lesson Objective: Students will understand differences in cultures by creating a vein diagram that discusses their
own personal culture compared to the South African culture.

Prior Knowledge: That everyone is human, yet there are differences among different people groups.
Well first off, you must know what culture means! Does anyone know what 15 mins
culture means? (Allow students to respond; some may know, some may not,
but all comments are welcome). Well culture is different in many peoples
lives. Culture must do with language, art, religion, food, music, and many
other different things.
3. Teacher Input
We are going to go on a virtual field trip to South Africa!
Students will go back to their seat and will fill out a vein diagram that 5-10 mins
compares/contrasts their own personal culture and the South African culture.
Students will be graded on this and will receive points for identifying at least
three things about their own culture, three things about the South African
5. Independent Practice culture and at least two things that are similar.
3 points: Aspects of own culture. (1pt each)
3 points: Aspects of S. African culture. (1pt each)
2 points: Similarities of the two. (1pt each)
Students struggled with being able to use the Venn Diagram to be able to compare/contrast
8. Assessment Results of South African culture to their own culture. Students were able to discuss it out loud and
all objectives/skills: with partners, however, the putting to words to the paper was difficult for the students.
