A. Understanding of the descriptive text.

Descriptive text is a text which says what a person or thing.


Purpose to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

Significant lexicogramatical featurs :

- Focus on specific participant.


- Us of attributte and identifying process.
- Frequent use of epithets and classifiers in nominal group.
- Use of simple present.

Simple present, is used for :

- To talk about general, more or less permanent situation.


- To repeat actions, habits, and customs.
- To refer to a scheduled or fixed future event.

B. The generic structure of description :


- Identification : Identifies phenomenon to be describe.
- Description : Describes parts, qualities, characteristic.

C. Example of descriptive text.

Krakatoa

Krakatoa is one of the vulcanoes of the sunda volcanic arc. The volcano was formed by
the sub-duction of the Indian Australian plate under the Euresian plate.
krakatoa is located in sunda strait, 40 km of the west coast of java on the island of Rakata in
Indonesia. The geographical coordinate 05 Krakatoa or 16,7 South latitude and 105.4 East
longitude.
At its peak, Krakatoa reached a height of 790 m (2.600 Ft) above see level. Its first
known eruption occurred in 416 AD. However, this eruption destroyed the vulcano of
Krakatoa which collapsed and formed a four mile wide caldera. The island of verlaten and
long are remnants of this older vokano. Suseqiently, three vulcanos combined to from the
island of Krakatoa.

B. Critical and suggestion

Praise be to Allah Swt almighty benevolent the most merciful, so that we can complete a
paper entitled descriptive text. We realize that there is still a lot of mistakes and short
comings in the writing of this paper, and therefore develop their critims and suggestion to the
reader that author can fix it.
