CHARACTERIZATION AND SUMMARY

HOW MY BROTHER LEON BROUGHT HOME A WIFE

CHARACTERS:

Baldo- The one who narrated the story and younger brother of Leon.
Leon ( or Noel ) The older brother of Baldo who brought home a wife.
Maria She was born and grew up in a big city and she is the wife of Leon.
Labang The bull who brought the wife and Leon to the home. And Baldo consider as
his pet.
Father The one who instructed Baldo on what he will do while he is on the road with
Leon and Maria.

SETTING:
Barrio Nagrebcan , Buang , La Union

THEME:

The theme of How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife. Enduring journey
sacrifices is necessary. In order to achieve success we must be strong enough, show
determination and be patient on whatever difficult event or situation you must have to
sacrifice just to be happy.

SUMMARY:

When they got home, their father did not welcome them. He was said to be in his
room; his leg is bothering him again. Baldo saw his mother and sister Aurelia and
Maria in the kitchen who seemed like crying. His father removed the roll of tobacco from
his mouth when he saw Baldo and started to ask something about Labang.
Baldo waits for Maria and Leon in a station so that he will bring the two in their
house. Maria meets Baldo at first time. Leon and Maria ride in the car with Baldo and
Labang. While they are in their journey, Leon asks Baldo on who told him to meet Maria
and Leon in the station. In their journey, Leon and Maria sang a song Sky Sown with
Stars. When they reach to their home, Leon saw his mother and asks on where his
father is. Baldo went upstairs to his fathers room and told some story of their journey.
And when Leon and Maria came into the fathers room, his father changed the topic to
Labang.

EXPLANATION:

1. The poem refers to a beautiful woman that gives him calmness and peace.
Sometimes, people are like night, because of the peace that it brought.

2. The air is gentle and rolling with fog. Usually at night, we feel very calm,
because of the cold temperature.

3. While in a deep sleep, he woke up.

4. When he remembered the beauty of her love, it always inspires him.

5. When he saw his love, all of his sadness and missing fades.

6. When he recall all the memories of the woman he loves, he remember the
fine, simple, sweet and gentle behavior of the woman that has been a very huge part of
his life.

7. The night reminds him the woman that he will never forget until his last breath.

ANALYSIS:

The poem refers to a peaceful night. It says the night brought him beautiful
dreams that he will never forget. The poem tells that the man is always inspired
because he remembered the woman whom he loves so much and he couldnt forget.
He always thinks about the sweet and gentle behavior of the woman that has been a
very huge part of his life. It also reflects that most of the night, we find peace and
rekindle all the good memories and experiences that make us strong to continue our
journey for coming day, and to face our future with a lot of courage and hope.
