Abstract

There are five thematic issues that are presented in Half the Sky: Gender-Based Violence, Sex
Trafficking and Intergenerational Prostitution, Maternal Mortality, Economic Empowerment,
and Education

Gender-Based Violence

Everyday across the globe there are millions of people being abused because society

doesnt accept them or where they live hasnt advanced to places where women are empowered

and the LGBTQ+ community has a voice. The supporting reason are LGBTQ+ youth and youth,

women across the world, and rape and sexual violence. Gender-based violence is completely

unfair to all of the genders, it is not okay that since women are treated lesser than men they are

usually targets of abuse.

LGBTQ+ youth and the general youth in America are a vital part of the worlds future so

we need to keep them safe. Supporting Reason #1: LGBTQ+ youth and youth

and 18% to 28% of bisexual students experienced dating violence in the prior year. 14% to 31%

of gay and lesbian students and 17% to 32% of bisexual students had been forced to have sexual

intercourse at some point in their lives.the percentage of LGB students (across the sites) who

were threatened or injured with a weapon on school property in the prior year ranged from 12%

to 28%.More studies are needed to better understand the risks for suicide among transgender

youth. However, one study with 55 transgender youth found that about 25% reported suicide

CONCLUSION

Restate Main Idea/Thesis: Gender-based violence is completely unfair to all of the genders, it is not

okay that since women are treated lesser than men they are usually targets of abuse.
