B oth adhering to the College of Agriculture (CA)s welfare and continuous development,
the two gentlemen presented their vision last February 26 at the National Crop Protec-
tion Center auditorium in front of CA constituents and some guests including former UP Regent
Nelia T. Gonzales.
Dr. Orville L. Bondoc (multi-awarded scientist and faculty of the Animal and Dairy Science
Cluster) underlined promotion and elevation of world class researches, bolstering of extension de-
livery systems, modernizing access to information, expanding scholarship programs and promoting
student welfare as some of his visions for CA.
On the other hand, Dr. Enrique C. Supangco (equally accomplished scientist and current di-
rector of the Center for Technology and Training Enterprise) vowed to continue the advocacies of
the outgoing CA dean; in which excellence in research, instruction and extension are priority pro-
grams. Dr. Supangco also emphasized technology commercialization as key to success in revitaliz-
ing the CA.

T he students of the Agricultural Systems Cluster (ASC) and the Food Science Cluster
(FSC) dominated the CA Inter-cluster Sportsfest held last February 1-28 at the
Agronomy-Soils-Horticulture grounds and lobby.
Garnering a total of 96 points in all events, the ASC-FSC group emerged as champion in
basketball (women), swimming (men & women), track events (men & women), plankwalk
(women), and scrabble.
The team composed of the Animal and Dairy Sciences Cluster and the Philippine Carabao
Center shared second place with the Crop Protection Cluster, while the Crop Science Cluster- team
got 4th place.
The outstanding players to be chosen from the various teams will represent CA in the annu-

Courtesy call of 15 member delegates from the Flower and Tea Association of Korea. The po-
tentials of flowers for making tea were discussed. The delegation was headed by Calvin Li,
chief executive officer, and Claire Kwon, assistant manager. Dr. Susan Bacud of the Crop Pro-
tection Cluster (CPC), Ma Charito Balladares of the Crop Science Cluster and Dr. Baby Richard
Navarro of the Food Science Cluster attended the meeting.
Presented the accomplishments of the college for 2014. This is in connection with the consulta-
tion being conducted by the Office of the Chancellor to assess the current priorities, thrust, is-
sues and problems of the college. Chancellor Sanchez; his vice-chancellors for Research and
Extension, Community Affairs, and Academic Affairs; and some faculty and staff of CA attended
the meeting.
Visited by Dr. Honorio Soriano, president of Pampanga State Agricultural University, to exchange
views on licensure examination for agriculturists.
Met with Sec. Ramon Paje of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
and Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension Rex Demafelis to discuss, among others, how
the university could assist DENR in the seedling production program. They also discussed schol-
arship and biomass international conference to be held in the middle of 2015.
Met with Ian R. Belleza who invited CA to co-organize an event on organic agriculture at Rock-
well and Global City in May 2015. Resource persons from CA on organic production, organic
pesticides, organic fertilizer, organic chicken, edible landscaping and snap hydroponics will be
invited for the occasion.

Visited Gov. Alfredo Maranan of Negros Occidental, Gov. Arthur Defensor of Iloilo and Gov. Hi-
lario Davide III of Cebu, together with Vice-Chancellor Demafelis, to seek their support regard-
ing the plan to transform UPLB-CA La Granja Research and Training Station in La Carlota City,
Negros Occidental into CA satellite campus. The campus plans to offer graduate programs every
weekend on a modular basis. This will allow professionals in the region to pursue graduate pro-
gram while working.
Visited the industrial site for the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Sweet Sor-
ghum Feasibility Project; together with Vice-Chancellor Demafelis, Prof. Moises Dorado, College
of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology Dean Arnold Elepao, Dr. Cecil Pascual and the
staff of the NEDA project
Visited by Dr. Dietertrautz and Prof. Insa Kuhlirg of the Faculty of Applied Science and Land-
scape Architecture, University of Applied Science (UAS), Osnabruck Germany to become familiar
with CAs research institution on precision agriculture. Also, Dean Angeles proposed to establish
collaboration with UAS on research and academic programs of mutual interest.
