REFLECTIVE LEARNING JOURNAL

Week 10 (February 20 - 24, 2017)

The lesson that we have tackled on February 20 - 24, 2017 is about Hypotheses

and Hypothesis Testing, and what I have learned about this is that, Hypotheses is a

specific guess based on a different resource such as concepts, thesis, ideas, and

theories. While in the Hypothesis Testing is a decision - making between two

opposing hypotheses. Additional to it, hypothesis testing is an area under inferential

statistics, through this there are two types of statistics which is descriptive statistics

and inferential statistics. Wherein the Descriptive statistics is describing the

population in the given data. These statistics is usually use before proceeding to the

inferential when you know your data is normal. In the Inferential statistics, make a

sound conclusion based on evidence given. We can get that evidence through

surveying and interviewing the respondents.

Based on the book that I have read, there are the steps on how to do the

hypothesis testing, first, get a random sample from the population. Second, collect

data from the sample. And lastly, use the sample data to make a decision as to whether

the hypothesis is acceptable or not. Hypothesis has a two types: the null hypothesis

and the alternative hypothesis. And for my understanding, the null hypothesis is a

statement that there is no difference, it is denoted by H0. On the other hand, the

alternative hypothesis is a statement that there is a difference and it is denoted by H1.

Through the example that we have on the book it says: A college librarian claims

that 20 storybooks on the average are borrowed daily. By the example that given we

need to identify the null hypothesis and after that identify also the alternative

hypothesis. But what makes me confuse is how I would know whether I will use the

1 or the .

I do not finish my explanation in the example above because I dont know how to

answer this on my own, even though it is being answered last meeting, still I want to

answer this by my own (understanding). But first I need to study about this topic,

because it is not enough if I just understand the meaning of the hypothesis and the

others, but also to understand how I will solve the problems.

To end my reflective learning journal, I honestly get what the meaning of the

hypothesis testing, its types and etc. but what I do not understand is how I will solve

the given problems if there is a given of mean, standard deviation, and other numbers

in the problems, because on how I understand it, if there is a given average in the

question it means I will use the symbol of mean (). But what Im going to do if there

is a mean score in the given while there is also mean () with it?
