Performance-Based Assessment Mini Presentation

Grade: Kindergarten
Standards:
RFK3 Know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills decoding words.
RFK3b Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings for the five major
vowels.
Objectives:
SWBAT identify and decode words with long vowel pattern.
SWBAT distinguish between long and short vowel sounds.
SWBAT create and decode real or nonsense words with long vowel pattern.
Lesson:
The lesson developed for my student is a word work small group lesson focusing on a long
o common spelling. Based on assessment results, my student requires more focused
instruction on long vowels and recognizing common long vowel spelling patterns. The
small group lesson is intended to be only 20 minutes with use of Kagan structures and
manipulatives for engagement. Students are to distinguish between long and short vowel
sounds. Then students are to decode long oa words and match words to given pictures.
Finally, students are to create their own real/nonsense words with the long oa pattern.
