Activities/Procedures
Students will be introduced to Keith Haring and the characteristics of his artwork,
as well as, the art movements Graffiti Art and Pop Art. While showing an artwork of
Keith Haring a classroom discussion on the types of shapes, lines, colors, and
patterns the students observe will take place.
At each table there will be an envelope placed at each seat. At one table each
envelope will have a different style of arms/ torsos, at the second table each
envelope will have a different style of legs and the third table will have a different
style heads. At each table there are eight students and while a clip with animated
Haring art and music is playing the students will walk around the table. When the
music stops the student will take one of the pieces of paper from the envelope
they are standing in front of. The students will do this at all three tables. The
students will be informed that these body parts have the characteristics of Keith
Harings figures, but the actions they choose for their figures is something they
personally choose.
Once they have all three body parts they will sketch/design out their Haring
inspired tiles. The design must include a simple figure, lines that show movement
or sound, simple area of pattern, bold/ bright/ solid colors, and heavy black
outlines.
Students will design their Haring inspired tile with clay.
After the Action tiles have been fired in the kiln the students will paint their Haring
