CHAMPION/DATA/ROUND 12
BRIS
Hi and welcome to the 12th H&A edition of the Fantasy Freako's rave for 2013. The bye round we
were all dreading is finally here. Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury, Gary Ablett, Brent Stanton, Jobe
Watson, Brendon Goddard and Bryce Gibbs are among the premiums that will miss this week -
CARL
making our captain selections that much harder.
In this week's focus I will once again highlight the best trade up options, this time focussing on the
six clubs that had the bye in Round 12. I will also analyse which clubs have leaked the most ton's
COLL
this season with very few surprises here.
Enjoy this week's read and best of luck for the last bye round of the year.
ESS
TR ADE UP TARGETS
With a further six teams having the bye last round, this is the week we look at players from Geelong, Melbourne,
North Melbourne, St Kilda, Sydney and West Coast. With the exception of the Demons, the other five sides are all
FREM
fantasy relevant and have plenty of elite scoring options to choose from. Even though he has played two matches the
most obvious choice is boom cash cow Tom Mitchell. Less than 23% of the competition currently owns him which will
make him the most traded in player this week.
GEEL
Prior to trading him in though you must determine where he fits in your side. Will he start on the ground once the
byes are over, or will be slip down to your bench? The answer to this question will determine who you trade out for
him and the best way to define this is to pick your team as if everyone was available and see where Mitchell fits in.
There will be plenty of coaches that will have a gun premium slip to the bench and if you are one of those you need to
GCS
decide what your intentions are with Mitchell prior to making your move.
Mitchell aside, several of his team mates are worth looking at as well, led by Ryan O'Keefe. He led the club for points
scored from Round 13 onwards last season, averaging 111 points per match, and in his last two games at this week's
GWS
venue AAMI Stadium he has racked up 140 and 145 points. Fellow midfielders Kieren Jack and Josh Kennedy should
also be in the mix.
As tempting as Steve Johnson is as a DPP, his massive breakeven has to count against him this week. Team mate
HAW
Jimmy Bartel is a far better option at a cheaper price with a much lower breakeven. Bartel has a solid record at the
Gabba since 2010, averaging 110 points per match - ranked second at the club. Joel Selwood hasn't fared as well at
that venue, returning 70 and 69 points respectively in his past two matches, but his low breakeven score makes him
a worthy option despite that record.
MELB
If you're in the market for a ruckman then it's hard to go past Todd Goldstein. He attends the most ruck contests of
any player in the league and ranks second for hitouts behind Will Minson. He is also one of only two elite scoring
ruckmen alongside Dean Cox.

BRIS
LEAKING POINTS
As good a guide as the points conceded rankings are I have taken the extra step and broken these
CARL
down into 100+ and 120+ categories. This enables us to gauge which sides concede the big scores, and
conversely which are the hardest to score heavily against.
COLL
Prior to getting into the nuts and bolts of the analysis, we must take note that the teams in red in the
below table have played the extra game, so keep that in mind. It's no surprise that Melbourne and
Greater Western Sydney have the worst records, but the latter has played the one extra game. Both sides
rank 17th and 18th in no particular order also for disposals, marks, inside 50s, marks inside 50 and
ESS
goals conceded as well.
Gold Coast has conceded the third most 100 point hauls of any side, but the next two are somewhat of a
surprise - Adelaide and Collingwood. The Magpies have taken the foot off defensively this season and have
FREM
been much easier to score against, ranking 15th in the league for goals conceded once their opposition
enters the forward 50 - down from second last year behind premiers Sydney.
GEEL
West Coast and Hawthorn, who coincidently meet this round have been the hardest to score against,
allowing only 23 and 25 players to exceed that mark in that order. Fremantle and Carlton is next best
with 29 apiece.
GCS
By increasing the threshold to 120 points the Demons are clearly the worst in the competition, allowing
22 players to exceed that mark - seven more than the next most tally by Richmond. Adelaide, Western
Bulldogs and St Kilda round out the top-five with 13 apiece.
GWS
West Coast is again the stingiest, with only Pearce Hanley, Michael Barlow and Grant Birchall scoring
120+ points against them. Fremantle is next best with only five players exceeding that mark against
them this year.
HAW
To put this analysis into practice, trading in players that come up against the Giants, Demons and to
a lesser extent Suns could be highly advantageous. Using Melbourne as the example, the likes of Leigh
Montagna (R.13), Matthew Boyd (R.14), Josh P. Kennedy (R.15), Joel Selwood (R.16) and Jack Redden
MELB
(R.17) are great options over the next five rounds, as they all come up against the Demons.

CARL
Considering he has suffered the second-biggest price fall of any
ruckmen this season, this is the week to offload Sam Jacobs. Look
to Todd Goldstein or Will Minson if money isn't an issue, otherwise
COLL
go for Ben McEvoy as the cheaper alternative.

A breakeven of 38 points this week for Brent Staker has me worried. He let
his legion of owners down last week with a poor 35 point display against the
Dockers, earning himself a marginal price rise of $19,000. Unless he has a belter
COLL
against the Cats this week, we may not see too many more price rises from him.

I hope you took a punt on Garrick Ibbotson last round as I

As tempting as Steve Johnson is as a DPP, his massive breakeven has to count against
CARL
him this week. Team mate Jimmy Bartel is a far better option at a cheaper price with
a much lower breakeven, but Chris Scott could throw a spanner in the works if he
decides to rest him as has been suggested. Bartel has a solid record at the Gabba since
COLL
2010, averaging 110 points per match - ranked second at the club. Joel Selwood hasn't
fared as well at that venue, returning 70 and 69 points respectively in his past two
matches, but his low breakeven score makes him a worthy option despite that record.

In one of the toughest decisions we face this year, a call has to be made on young gun
Jaeger O'Meara. It doesn''t help that he's coming off a belter of a game, finishing with 30
disposals and 106 points against Essendon. If you haven't got Tom Mitchell yet then he
COLL
is the most obvious trade target for O'Meara - netting you almost $300k in the process.
