This is Mang Domeng, a farmer in one of the rural provinces of our country.

He wakes up early in the

morning, works hard toiling in the fields for long hours, yet at the end of the day, hes still faced with the
same problems. He always ends up worrying about not being able to provide enough food for his
livestock, and at times even for his family. And at night when he comes home, the struggle of not having a
direct access to electricity burdens him and his family. The worst is that being part of one of the lowest
paying sectors in the Philippine economy, he barely has any opportunity to make any progress.

Mang Domeng is just one of the multitude of farmers that face similar problems brought by the harsh
reality that agriculture is no longer the competitive edge of our country.

So how can we improve on the situation of Mang Domeng and our local industries? Seems close to
impossible, right?

But what if we tell you that we can

1. increase the income of farmers
2. aid in energy production in rural areas
3. And at the same time, reduce pollution

Allow us to introduce to you our simple yet revolutionary product, the Pakchong Super Napier Grass.

Our product aims to be the game changer in both the energy and agriculture industry. And we dont only
mean this as a clich line. Pakchong Super Napier grass can improve the productivity of our local
farmers. Faster harvest, better nutritional value for their livestock and more importantly, a significant
increase in their income.

With all these advantages, how exactly do we utilize this Super Napier Grass?

We divide the grass into two parts, its leafy part and the hard stem. The leafy part would either be
pelletized and used as biomass for electricity and energy production, or sold as silage for livestock feed
purposes.

The stem part would be dried, cut and packaged to be sold in the local communities as a greener and
more efficient replacement for firewood.

For our business model, we hope to set up a nursery/ mother garden in Tanay, Rizal that will serve as a
breeding ground for the Pakchong Super Napier Grass. From here we collaborate with farmers in the
local community, which would boost production and at the same time ensure a sustainable source of
income for the members of the community.

With the shift all around the world towards renewable energy, we see limitless potential and a bright future
for our project.

With the developments in the local scene such as the Bathala rocket stove, which makes use of biomass
to cook and produce electricity at the same time, to the coal plants that use biomass to replace a portion
of their coal needs. Imagine having a small community sustain itself with the energy that the Super Napier
Grass could provide.

Indeed, the possibilities are endless.

With the success of this project, farmers like Mang Domeng will be able to live a relatively better life.
This is our dream for the Philippines, and we hope that you would consider being part of the change that
we are about to bring.

We are Project Grassroots.
