COMMENTS: (strengths, areas for growth, next steps):

Bronson visited the school prior to the start of his placement to become familiar with the courses he would be
teaching and the dynamic of the school itself. Throughout his placement he made an effort to be
well-prepared, developing and presenting engaging lessons that addressed the curriculum in ways that were
culturally relevant and appropriate for all ability levels. Bronsons understanding of the importance of
connecting learning to students culture and backgrounds was evident when he contacted the author of a
specific text that dealt with Indigenous identity and suicide prevention in order to teach material that could
heal issues that the school had faced in its past, being an urban First Nations high school.

Bronson is comfortable in front of a classroom and has developed his teaching style throughout his
placement. Bronson handled classroom management issues with confidence, developing a mutual respect
with students. He has incorporated differentiated instruction techniques to help reach all students and has
varied his assessment methods to suit each assignment. Bronson has also incorporated a variety of
classroom technologies into his lesson planning, helping to engage students in the learning process. Bronson
consistently demonstrated an immense enthusiasm and dedication for teaching, routinely engaging students
by doing things like dressing up as Batman while delivering his lessons. Bronson also continually motivated
all of his students to reach their potential, and found ways to provide various incentives that were
personalized to each student.

Bronson has been responsive to feedback and has strived to continually grow and learn throughout his
placement. He developed a positive rapport with students, both in the classroom and during after-school
activities, routinely offering his time to help students with their homework after school, helping to supervise
the weight room at lunch time, and helping to facilitate activities organized by our Student Council.

As Bronson continues to grow as a teacher and gains more experience working with students, he will further
develop his teaching style and instructional methods.
Bronson has a wealth of interests and knowledge that he brings into the classroom. His time at DFC was very
much appreciated by staff and students.

Contextual or extenuating circumstances surrounding the evaluation of this teacher candidate:

Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School is an urban Aboriginal private school. It is operated by the Northern
Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC). The NNEC is directed by the Chiefs of the Sioux Lookout District First
Nations. All courses are approved and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The credits granted at
our school are the same as those of a provincial secondary school, and are transferable to any other high
school.

The students at DFC are primarily shy and quiet until they get to know the people they are working with.
Bronson's efforts to build positive relationships with the students helped to bring out the best in them.
