March 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I want to bring the following items to your attention in this March Newsletter:

School News and Achievements

Confirmation: Congratulations to the children who received the sacrament of Confirmation on Friday last
and many thanks to all the staff who helped with the ceremony. Thanks to Bishop Fintan, Fr. Tom and our
excellent choir who helped to make the ceremony a holy and meaningful occasion for the confirmation class
and their families and friends.
First Confession takes place tonight at 7pm for our Holy Communion children. We wish the children well in
their preparations for their First Holy Communion on May 13th.
Seachtain na Gaeilge is taking place this week in school where children are making a special effort with
using Irish in the corridors and during breaks. Mr Garry is coordinating the events and a very successful table
quiz in Irish took place on Friday. Well done to the winning team of Emma, John, Jassim and Noah.
Science Ireland Shows: Mr. Healy organised very exciting Science experiment shows for classes from 1st to
6th. Declan Holmes from Science Ireland performed these shows in our school hall and the children really
enjoyed taking part in the Science activities.
Engineering week took place in the school last week. Consultant Engineer Conor McDonagh gave very
interesting talks to 6th class on the Engineering Industry.

Enrolment for Junior Infants 2017

If you have a child or know of a child, who would like a place in our school in September 2017, please contact the
school for an application form as soon as possible.

Attendance

Our excellent average attendance for the year stands at 94.3% and for the month of March our Attendance is 94.6%.
At the end of each Term (Term 1 September-Christmas, Term 2 January-Easter, Term 3 Easter-Summer) children who
have full attendance for that Term will receive a special prize at Assembly. Hopefully most children will achieve full
attendance for at least one Term. Also at our end of year Assembly we will be presenting Trophies, Gold and Silver
medals for pupils that have missed no day, 1 day or 2 days in the whole school year.

Split the Pot

Our weekly Split the Pot draw has been a fantastic success. Our most recent winner was Linda Meaney (mother of
Callum 5th class) and she won an amazing 350 from the jackpot of 700. Each week we also give out a second prize
of 20 to a pupil. Extra Easter egg prizes will be given out until Easter. The draw will take place every Thursday and
good luck!

Flag Day Fundraiser

The recent Flag Day Fundraiser was a great success. Thank you to all the parents, children and staff that helped out
on the day. The amount raised was 1568 and this will be put towards our new school building.
