ENTERPRISE SYSTEM

Enterprise systems are one of the most complex and

powerful information systems
SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is the
worlds most popular
ARCHITECTURE OF
ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS

Refers to the technical structure of the software

The ways that users interact with the software
How the software is physically managed on
computer hardware
Consist of two :
Client-Server Architecture
Service-Oriented Architecture
Client-Server Architecture

Consist of three components/layers:

Presentation layer
Application layer
Data layer
Internet uses a three-tier architecture
Benefits :
Reduced the costs of acquiring, implementation, and using ES
Increasing the scalability of the systems
Client-Server Architecture
Service-Oriented Architecture

Relates to the technical capabilities that allow systems

to connect with one another trough standardized
interfaces called Web Services
By using web services, companies could now integrate
multiple client-server app and create enterprise mash-
ups, or composite app.
Composite app or mash-ups rely on Web services to
send & receive data between ES.
Benefits :
Eliminates great cost and complexity from integration
projects
Can now create new composite app quickly and inexpensively

ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING
(ERP) SYSTEMS

The worlds largest and most complex ES

Focus primarily on intra-company processes and
they integrate functional and cross-functional
business process
Support:
Operations (Production)
HR
Finance&Accounting
Sales&Distribution
Procurement
ERP Solution Map
Solution map identifies the functionality and processes
supported by the system.
ERP Modules (SAP ERP)

The capabilities of an ERP system are often

described in terms of modules that common to see
or hear SAP ERP
INTER-COMPANY PROCESSES

Supply chain Management (SCM) and Supplier

Relationship Management (SRM)
Production planning,transportation, logistics, quotation,
contracts
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Marketing, sales, service
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
Research, design, and product management
Application Suite
Application Platforms
The role of the operating system for our PC
SAP introduced its application platform, SAP
NetWeaver, in 2003
An integral part of SAP ERP and the SAP Business Suite
Contains the SOA capabilities

DATA IN AN ENTERPRISE SYSTEM

Data in an ERP system are used to represent the

pyhsical system in which process steps such as
creating a purchase order and receiving goods are
carried out.
Types of data in an ERP system:
1.Organizational data
2.Master Data
3.Transaction data
ORGANIZATIONAL DATA

Organizational data are used to represent the

structure of an enterprise in terms of business
process.
Three organizational data elements:
1. Client
2. Company code
3. Plant
Client and Company Code (cont)

Client
Highest organization level in SAP ERP.
Client represents an enterprise consisting of many companies
or subsidiaries.
Company Code
Company code represents a separate legal entity and it is the
central organizational element in financial accounting.
A client have multiple company codes
A company must belong to only one client
PLANT

Performs multiple functions

Used by many processes
Represents factory, warehouse, offcie, distribution
center, etc..
Following functions are typically performed :
Products/services are created
Materials are stored and used for distribution
Production planning is carried out
Service or maintenance is performed

ORGANIZATIONAL DATA (cont)
MASTER DATA

Master Data represent entities associated with

various processes.
Long-term data typically represent entities
associated with various processes
1. Customer
2. Vendor
3. Material
4. Etc..
Material Master

Material master is used in numerous processes :

1. Procurement who and how much
2. Fulfilment Product availability and shipping
condition
3. Production
4. Material planning
5. etc,..

Data are grouped
based on :
Process
Material type
Procurement
Organization process
level
Material Types
Material Type Description
FERT Finished goods
ROH Raw materials
HALB Semi-finished goods
HAWA Trading goods
DIEN Services
ERSA Spare parts
HIBE Operating supplies
Etc..
Material Types (contd)

Raw Materials (ROH)

1. Purchased, not sold, used in production
2. Purchasing and production related views
3. No sales related view
Semi-finished goods (HALB)
1. Produced using other materials (ROH, HALB)
2. Used in the production of other materials
(HALB, FERT)
3. Not purchased or sold
Material Types (contd)

Finished goods (FERT)

1. Produced using other materials (ROH, HALB)
2. Sold to customers

Trading goods (HAWA)

1. Purchased and resold without additional
processing
Material Groups

Materials with similar characteristics

For example, material used in production or on
sales
In retail, we may have categories such as footwear,
clothing, bevarages
Materials are grouped so that they can be managed
collectively (e.g, planning)
Organizational Level

Final factor that determines the type of data

included in the material master.
Materials can be defined differently for different
organizational levels
For example, the same material can be used in
multiple plants, but the ways it is used can vary
from one plant to another.
Transaction Data

Transaction data reflect the consequences of

executing process steps, or transactions.
Transaction data are a combination of
organizational data, master data, and situational
data.
SAP ERP uses several different types of documents
to record transactional data, some of these
documents are created as the process is being
executed, and the others created after the process
steps are completed
