Job Description

Position Shop Manager


Location Various across Lindsey
Reporting to Area Shops Manager
1 Purpose of the job
To be responsible for the day to day running of Age UK Lindsey
Charity Shops, working closely with the Shops Area Manager in order
to increase sales and promote the work of the charity.
2 Main responsibilities, tasks and duties
To work with the Shops Area Manager to meet sales targets by
managing, training, motivating and providing feedback to staff and
volunteers.
To work as a team with other shop staff, charity staff and volunteers to
contribute to an effective and efficient department and charity as a
whole.
To ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent
service.
To reach sales targets and increase profits for the Charity Shop.
To liaise with other Age UK Lindsey shops and the Shops Area
Manager to ensure stock levels are maintained.
To deal with customer service issues such as queries and complaints
as per policy.
To maintain a presence on the shop floor and direct work to ensure
efficient running of the shop.
To support other Age UK charity shops as and when requested and
maybe at short notice.
To complete all administration and ensure compliance with policies
and procedures.
Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising
standards.
To ensure that the shop is clean, well merchandised and ready for
trading at all times.
To effectively merchandise new goods and donated stock in order to
maximise sales, increase footfall and optimise profitability.
To be responsible for the receipt of, pricing and merchandising of
bought in goods ensuring accurate stock maintenance and control.
To sort, prepare and price donated stock for sale and be responsible
for all others doing so.

To maintain the back room in an orderly fashion to enable quick
replenishment of stock on the shop floor.
To be the primary key holder for the premises and ensuring that the
shop is open and trading effectively at the advertised times and on the
specified days.
To implement the charity Gift Aid system and to train staff and
identified volunteers accordingly.
To ensure other Age UK Lindsey services and products are promoted.
3 Performance goals
To complete all tasks on time.
To deal with customers, suppliers, and all employees/volunteers in a
professional and courteous manner at all times.
To ensure that purpose of job and main responsibilities, tasks and
duties are delivered as expected.
4 Management of people
To manage Shop Assistants and volunteers on a daily basis, direct
their work, conduct Performance Appraisals and carry out regular Line
Management meetings.

In the absence of the Shop Area Manager and in liaison with the
Administration Manager to monitor and manage the work of
tradespeople or maintenance contractors.
5 Decision making
To plan own work schedule to support given targets. Flexibility to
make decisions to ensure effective completion of assigned tasks.
To plan and prioritise the workload of the Shop Assistants and shop
volunteers.
Work is overseen by the Shops Area Manager.
6 Communication and networking
To attend Shop Managers meetings as and when requested.

To attend Age UK Lindsey events as required supporting the charity


and promoting services.

To communicate with relevant staff any concerns around


Safeguarding.
Liaise with colleagues as necessary in the performance of duties as
required, consistent with the requirements of the organisation.
7 Financial responsibility
To efficiently operate the computerised cash register system and
accurately complete all relevant daily and weekly paperwork.
To ensure monies are banked daily.
To be responsible for Petty Cash transactions within the shop in
accordance with set procedures and guidelines.

8 Knowledge and skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to
multi-task.
Experience in using Microsoft Office applications.
Good staff management skills to oversee the work of the staff within
the department.
Budget management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9 Working environment
Work is subject to challenging and competing deadlines and subject to
unpredictable changes which require management of conflicting
priorities.
Expect to have a significant workload within a busy charity.
Physical effort required and some lifting of moderately heavy bags of
clothes and other items.
10 General
The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not
exhaustive. The post holder may be required to undertake other
duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope
of the post. Any such duties should not substantially change the
general character of the post. Duties and responsibilities outside of
the general scope of the post will be with the consent of the post
holder.

vulnerable adults and if you are concerned you need to follow Age UK

vulnerable adults have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the
welfare of vulnerable adults during the course of their work.
Training
Undertake any training that is relevant to the role.
