Three -Phase Fault

Explanation: Three phase source supplies power to three phase series RLC load through the Bus-
S(Sending end bus), Transmission line of 200KM and Bus-R(Receiving end bus). L-G fault occurs
at distance 50KM of transmission line from source side. Now the sending end voltage and current
can be observed by scope Voltage-S and Current-S respectively. The receiving end voltage and
current can be observed by scope Voltage-R and Current-R respectively.

Specification of the System:

Source Voltage: 500KV, Frequency: 50Hz,

Transmission Line Parameters:
R1 = 0.01273 /km; R0 = 0.3864 /km;
L1 = 0.9337e 3 H/km; L0 = 4.1264e 3 H/km;
C1 = 12.74e 9 F/km C0 = 7.751e 9 F/km;
Meaning: R0=Zero sequence resistance per KM of transmission line.
R1=Positive sequence resistance per KM of transmission line.
L0=Zero sequence inductance per KM of transmission line.
L1=Positive sequence inductance per KM of transmission line.
C0=Zero sequence capacitance per KM of transmission line.
C1=Positive sequence capacitance per KM of transmission line.
Simulation Output of Scope-1 (Voltage-S):
Transmission line length: 200km, L-G fault created at distance of 50km (from Source side);
Fault is created at 0.0005 sec, cleared at 0.001 sec, simulation time: 0.005 sec;

From the above output curve,

1st Travelling Time, a1=0.664ms;
2nd Travelling Time , a2=1.00ms;
3rd Travelling Time, a3=1.22ms.
Redraw the above curves and make the legend of each curve.
What are the meanings of a1, a2, a3 ? Write down the meaning.
Can you please mark a1, a2, a3 in above figure.

Simulation Output of Scope-3:

Transmission line length: 200km, L-G fault created at distance of 50km(from source side);
Fault is created at 0.0005 sec, cleared at 0.001 sec, simulation time: 0.005 sec;
From the above output curve,
1st Travelling Time, b1=1.00ms;
2nd Travelling Time, b2=1.35ms;
3rd Travelling Time, b3=1.56ms;
Redraw the above curves and make the legend of each curve.
What are the meanings of b1, b2, b3 ? Write down the meaning.
Can you please mark b1, b2, b3 in above figure.

Bewley Lattice Diagram: The Bewley Lattice Diagram should have been explained in details
before hand.
From the output of scope-1 and scope-3,
a1=0.664ms, a2=1.00ms, a3=1.22ms.
b1=1.00ms, b2=1.35ms, b3=1.56ms.

The Bewley Lattice diagram is shown in bellow-

Distance, X = 2
Where, c=299.79 m/s
l=Total length of Line

Explain how you get the above equation for X.
