SWOT and PESTEL Analysis

Financial Manager - Jack Wines

Strengths
Working in a partnership could allow for short-term financial aid from
partners due to reliance on our success.
Standard fixed costs make it easy to predict business costs in the financial
budget.
International experience and multilingual directors could allow us to
source international and diverse financing for the start-up year.
3D printing advantages such as low costs, environmental benefits and
time efficiency make it an attractive construction method for developers.

Weaknesses
Reliance on partners for success could lead us to aid them financially,
damaging our own available funds.
High equipment reliance could see us in need to replace technology often
if there are breakdowns. Our 3D printing partners included.
Travelling between office, site and partners could see travel costs being
quite high, even if it is all local.
Large scale projects could see revenue come into the business in large,
infrequent quantities.
Due to early technology, there are limits to what can be done in the early
years.

Opportunities
3D Printing technology could be seen as a new trend and earn us high
revenue within the early years. It is highly customisable, printing in
different materials.
Keeping costs low in the first year could allow us a marginal profit and
opportunity for re-investment into the business for year Two.
Low bank rates will lower the interest on any loans.
Architecture mostly targets clientele within the top 1% who have spare
money to spend, but our target market involves developers providing for a
much larger customer base. Our architecture has the opportunity to
connect with the other 99% of people.

Threats
More established and recognisable firms could steal away business and
potential revenue.
Distrust in new 3D printing technology could limit the revenue in the early
years leading to tighter financial budgets.

Political
Government intent to build more affordable homes could see large scale
demand for housing produced cheaply.
If theres new legislation to meet environmental standards, 3D printing
could see a rise in demand.
More investment in cities north of London, to promote internal economic
growth. Nottingham included.

Economics
Growing demand for residential and commercial within cities could see
private developers looking to build cheap or quality builds, based on their
preference.
High inflation could halt development of property, therefore our sources of
revenue.
High inflation could increase equipment costs for the business.

Social
Distribution of ages will create a large dependant population, changing the
type of residential in demand (retirement houses, family homes)
Increase in city population will result in the need for higher density
residential or the changing of typologies to residential, resulting in more
business available for urban planning and design.
More facilities such as schools and hospitals will be needed in city centres
also.
Reduction of people with spare funds will require architectural industry to
adapt from a luxury market to a more mainstream one, undergoing larger
scale projects and greater competition for the projects.

Technology
Interest in new technologies such as 3D printing will give a novelty boost
to the business within the first years and will give a small window of
opportunity for the business to attain contacts within developer clientele.
Improvements in urban transport may make site travel quicker and
cheaper.
Improved design software could make the design process clearer and
quicker leading to project work being completed in better time or
opportunities for optimising design quality.

Environmental
Concerns for sustainability and environmental preservation could lead to
increased demand for sustainable practice, of which 3D printing allows.
Environmental concerns may alter the way in which site visits are
conducted.

Legal
Legislation on construction could change the requirements for
architectural drawings.
Labourer protection legislation could restrict the opportunities for 3D
printing, as 3D printing reduces the need for workforce labour on site.
Urban planning legislation could include requirements for transport or road
layout, drastically impacting urban design approach.
