Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in an effort to reach out to the common man, launched a survey
on Demonetisation on 22nd November, 2016. He invited views from the people, on decision taken
regarding the ban on Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes. The survey was in sync with the Prime
Ministers vision of participative governance on key policy and execution matters.
The survey hosted on the Narendra Modi app consisted of 10 questions. It received an
overwhelming response from all over the country.
About 10.2 lakh people participated in the survey
and such a large sample size on a policy or political
issue is the first that India has seen. Out of 687
districts, responses have been received from 684
districts.
The Prime Minister sent out an email to lakhs of
Indians who participated in the survey. The email
was addressed to each participant personally. The
survey was in spirit with his consistent belief in
participative governance.
In an effort to ease troubles for the common man, no service charge will be levied on debit
cards. The relaxation will be in effect till 31st December, 2016. Further, in order to encourage
digital transactions, the limit for e-wallets has been increased to Rs. 20,000 from Rs. 10,000.
The relaxation will also be applicable on railway tickets booked through IRCTC.
Upholding the spirit of democracy and participative governance, our Prime Minister not only
welcomed the suggestions from the citizens but also acted upon them.
Many people opined that the loopholes in our existing taxation laws somehow gave the leverage
to the people to get their unaccounted money as accounted for, and this was the reason behind
the sufferings of honest citizens. Therefore our Prime Minister took a step to amend the existing
law in order to cover these loopholes. The second amendment bill was passed in the Lok Sabha
on 29th November, 2016.
People should treat this
amendment as a window
of opportunity to declare
their undisclosed income
as the bill proposes to
levy heavy tax and
penalty on any
unexplained income.
