9/27 Clinton Ms. 7th Ms. Gaytan explained the schedule had been ED 413
MS Gaytan changed and therefore on Tuesdays she would
have her second period at our placement time ED 425

which would be yearbook. Fortunately we were able

ES Field Work: Geography
Mr.
9/28 Augustu Ament 9th Mr. Armenta had a discussion with the students at
s a the beginning od class asking what are some
Hawkin positive and negative things that affect a persons
s HS health within the community. He uses this tactic to
draw participation by pulling out cards that had the ED 330
students names. One student was picked but
refused to participate and Mr. Armenta waited for ED 413
10-15 minutes which created a tense environment Ethnic Studies
since the student seemed frustrated and the rest of
the class wanted to move on. After this discussion
Mr. Armenta assigned students to each bruin to
start of our sharing activity. The students I was
assigned were Amy, Emilio, Damaris and Gregory. I
shared a painting from a yoga and healing class
and I also got to learn a little more about them.

9/29 Clinton Ms. 7th Ms. Gaytan had students discuss the different
MS Gaytan reasons the Roman Empire fell. She was going ED 330
through a packet, DBQs and answering questions ED 413
based on the readings or analyzing of the primary
sources. She provided sentence starters for her ED 425
students and prepped them for the future DBQ
essay where they will discuss a few reasons that
led to the fall of the Roman Empire.
8:00-9:50am World History

9/30 SVAH @ Ms. 10th Today Ms. Zapanta also went over the ancient ED 330
RFK Zapant philosophers as she did on Tuesday. She focused on ED 413

showed us the different between her other periods ED 425
and the dynamic of this class that is usually more
willing to participate.
10:25-11:21 am Medieval World

9/30 Clinton Ms. 7th Ms. Gaytan had students work on their outline for ED 330
MS Gaytan the paper on the fall of the roman empire. She ED 413

SVAH @ Ms. 10th Today, Ms. Zapanta did a simulation of the ancien
RFK Zapant regime. First, she went over and reviewed to the
a students who King Louis XIV was. Followed by some
small questions that made students refer to their
notebooks (Who was he, what was his impact).
Next, she moved onto Louis XVI and showed a
short clip about the Palace of Versailles. She then
followed that up by another round of short answer
questions which made the students refer back to
their notebooks. After, she starts the simulation by
going over the rules and making the students read ED 330
the roles sheet that was passed out in the ED 413
beginning of class. Students were either the
peasants, clergy, noble lords, or King Louis ED 425
XVI/Marie Antoinette. The peasants were not
allowed to sit and had to make small sheets of food
and the group that made the most got extra credit.
The peasants were then taxed 10% to each clergy,
50% to the King and Queen, and the noble lords
kept 1 food stamp for every peasant. This led
peasants to keep little for themselves and had no
way to sustain their families. It causes some
students to want to create an unrising because of
this unfair treatment. After, students were able to
debrief the event and answered 5 questions to end
class.

quotes that came from Muhammad and she broke
down to the students what book the Islamic people ED 425
used. Lastly, there was a chart that she drew that
the students had to fill out. This is working towards
their DBQ for the section on Islam. We did not
attend Yearbook class and debriefed with Maurus.

SVAH @ Ms. 10th In class, Ms. Zapanta was running a bit late. She ED 413
RFK Zapant was planning to do another simulation on the
a Estates General meeting. She set students up into ED 425

the three estates with the monarchy (king and

queen) separately. In their assigned groups (same
as from the feudal system simulation), students
were given the task to create a poster with a
symbol, their catch phrase, and to come up with a
proposal on how to fix Frances dire financial crisis.
10:25-11:21 am Medieval World

Clinton Ms. 7th Today, Mrs. Gaytan and the students worked on ED 330
10/27 MS Gaytan analyzing quotes from the Quran and the Sunnah.
The students had to explain what they thought the ED 413
quote meant and how it would have affected the Ethnic Studies
life of the Islams. Students were working in groups
until they became too loud and she assigned them
to work independently.
8:00-9:50am World History
10/28
SVAH @ Ms. 10th In todays class, Ms. Zapanta did the Estates
RFK Zapant General Meeting with her 4th period class. It was
a similar to the last class where each group had to sit
in their Estates and were assigned to create a ED 330
poster with a slogan and a proposal on how to fix
Frances financial crisis. The students in the third ED 413
estate had the hardest time because it was such a ED 425
huge group that people who sat on the edges were
less inclined to participate in group work because
most of the activity was happening in the middle of
the tables. This period created alliances with other
estates and there was some backstabbing that
occurred.

ED 330
Clinton Ms. 7th Today, students worked on analyzing pictures and
10/28 MS Gaytan relating it back to quotes from Muhammad and ED 413
Islam. Students would have to describe what they ED 425
saw on the pictures and how it might have related
to Muslims.
8:00-9:50am World History

11/01SVAH @ Ms. 10th Today, Ms. Zapanta revisited and finished off the
RFK Zapant Estates General Meeting with the students. She ED 330

and the debrief questions with the students. She
gave them about 10 minutes to do the questions. ED 425
Later on, she went onto frontloading the Revolution
with the Storming of the Bastile and a few other
events.

over what she expects from them on their essays ED 413
on Islam. She exclaimed that she wanted them to ED 425
explain and paraphrase the book. Also, she said
that it would take more than 1 sentence to describe
the Sunnah and the Quran. She then let the
students work on their essay structures.

11/03SVAH @ Ms. 10th Today, Ms. Zapanta front loaded information to the ED 413
RFK Zapant students about the beginnings of the French

expressed how effective this website has been for
her. After, I corrected some of the mix and match
responses from her exam. She also introduced and
allowed her students to start on their Twitter profile

Clinton Ms. 7th Today, Mrs. Gaytan went over a template of the
11/03 MS Gaytan structure of the essay that her students should be
working on. On this worksheet, it lays out the
sentence that she wants her students to follow. ED 330
This is her form of scaffolding because she is trying ED 413
to teach her students how to write an essay and
providing her essays outline with sentence starters Ethnic Studies
allows her students to plug in the information that
she expects because they went over what to put in
the past couple of days. I was assigned to work

included The Meeting of the Estates General ED 413

11/04 MS Gaytan Today, the students were supposed to be finished ED 330

allowed her students to stay in at lunch if they
needed to finish their essays. We were assigned to
sit at tables and assist students that came to us.
8:00-9:50am World History

11/08SVAH @ Ms. 10th Today, we stayed at Ms. Zapantas for 1st and 2nd
RFK Zapant period. She starts off with the slide that shows
a Question of the Day, Content Objectives, Language
Objectives, and Words of the Day. She then
introduced the assignment of the day which was a
short reading on the Trial of King Louis XVI. The
assignment required the students to work in their
table groups to create a T chart that stated if King
Louis was guilty or not guilty of treason. Ms.
Zapanta read the first paragraph and asked
students who wanted to participate to read the last
two sentences. After this, she has a slide on the
projector that lists the requirement of the T-Chart
Assignment and for them to write a one paragraph
write up if they believe King Louis should get
beheaded or not. The reading is from SHEG. Before ED 330
the group discussion, she ask students to stand up
or not if they believed King Louis was guilty. She ED 413
then has a group discussion. Following that, she ED 425
has the new seating chart projected to the screen.
She then asks who did the Reign of Terror
homework. She was cognizant that students were
assigned a lot of homework from their science
teacher along with other classes, so Ms. Z let it be
extra credit for students that finished. If they didnt
finish, she allowed the students to finish it in after
school tutoring and for them to stay at least 30
mins for full credit. Ms. Z continues with the
Political Factions lecture. There is not much on the
slides and she states that it is an important skill to
take notes of what she is saying instead of copying
all on the powerpoint. A person/student comes in to
relay a message, but Ms. Z continues her lecture
and tends to the person after shes done. She then
passes out the Political Faction Reading and the
culminating assessment, but states that it is due
next Monday to give the students a bit more time.
