Here's what we're learning this week:

Reading: This week we will be using key details to support the main topic, as well as looking
at words and using context to develop deeper understanding. We will be using a variety of
texts to apply these useful reading skills.

Turn over for more information

Phonics: This week students will learn when to use tch. Students will learn that when the
/ch/ sound is heard immediately after a short vowel at the end of a word, they should use
tch.

Writing: We are getting to the point in writing where students will be ready to write and
send their first letters! I have a feeling some of you may be receiving a letter. If/when
you do, please take the time to respond in similar fashion. Give your opposing opinion,
reasons that support your opinion, and a possible compromise (solution). I would love this
to become a writing dialogue between you and your little author. When you finish your
response letter, please fold it up, mark it with their name and the word response and put
it in their green take home folder. Your student has been working on this for a long time,
so please help me build a passion for writing in our students!

Math: We will begin to start unit 6, Comparison and Data. Students will learn how to
collect, represent, and organize data.

Social Studies/Science: This week students will work in groups to use a variety of provided
materials to create a weather tool to measure wind. Students will need to develop a plan,
create a sketch, and implement their plan. This will tap into students problem solving and
critical thinking skills. Students will also have to learn how to work with one another.
