Abstract
Now a days, strength characteristics of soils have more importance due to increasing building loads. In some
projects, geotechnical properties of the soils should be improved. Geotechnical engineers generally use waste
materials to improve soil properties but most of these materials have toxic substances such as heavy metal slags, fly
ash, silica fume and industrial resins. This paper assesses the stabilizing effect of samanea pod and ordinary
portland cement on laterite soil. Samanea pod is a new kind of naturally occurring resin material which has a high
adhesive property, which will help to improve properties of soil. In this project, the effects of the addition of
different perecentage of Samanea pod and OPC 43 grade cement has been studied. There is an improvement in
MDD & reduction in OMC of soil has been observed. In addition CBR, Direct shear, unconfined compression and
permeability tests also conducted. The properties are improved moderately at optimum percentage (samanea pod
2.5% + opc 3%) of addition of admixtures.
