The Filipino-American Relations

Philippines and the USA had their contacts back after the defeat of Spain from the United States.

The United States took the Philippine Islands as their colony. And just like the Spaniards, they

introduced new cultures and systems in our country. And education is one of the systems that

tighten our bond with the United States. And aside from that, there are also military agreements

in this country which also improved our bond with them which include the visiting forces

agreement in which it maintains the economic and commercial ties of both countries while

maintaining the security ties of both countries. Aside from the military agreement, there is also a

diplomatic relation between these two countries. In fact, US maintains an embassy in here and

the Philippines maintain an embassy in the united states as well. Aside from that, the trade-

investment relation between the two countries was good also. And because of this, Philippines is

the 30th largest supplier in the United States. The two-way merchandise trade between the two

countries was worth $17 billion back in the year 2006. Aside from that, US also helped the

Philippines in the patrol. Back in 1951, both countries agreed in the mutual defense treaty as

well. And also, last April 2014, both countries also signed the ten-year pact which is EDCA or

the Enhanced Defense Co-operation Agreement in which the Philippines allows the United states

to maintain its military presence. I believe that due to the colonization of the USA before in our

country, it helped us build more ties in other countries as well. And because of them, the

Philippines couldnt have experienced the proper educational system as well. And this relation

that we had with them should be strengthened for it can also help both countries during difficult

times.
