MGSE3.G.1
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may
share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger
category (e.g., quadrilaterals).
Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw
examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.

Description of how to implement in the class:
The teacher will present an interactive poster board to the class about classifying quadrilaterals
based upon their characteristics. Students observe the material provided by the interactive poster
board through interactive white board. Materials include vocabulary about the different
quadrilaterals, a video about quadrilaterals, and a game involving quadrilaterals. Once all the
material on the poster has been introduced, the students will be instructed to create a Venn Diagram
that appropriately categorizes the types of quadrilaterals. They will then present their product via
document camera or drawing their diagram on the interactive white board.

Students can work individually or work in small groups, no more than 4 to a group. If students need
help remembering the material or content, they will have the interactive poster board displayed for
them to view at any time. Teacher assistance will also be provided.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):
This lesson uses Beyond Basic Productivity Tools as well as interactive white boards. The students
are applying their knowledge learned from the interactive poster as well as analyzing the
quadrilaterals to determine their correct category in the Venn Diagram. Based upon those facts, I
would consider this a Level 4 LoTi level.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *:
The interactive poster board contains a borrowed a video from youtube.com that plays a song along
with animation that is child friendly and engaging. It also contains images of each type of
quadrilateral with descriptions of each along the side. There is also a link to a game the students can
play that involve quadrilaterals and a list of my borrowed references that were not provided by the
site.
Other comments about your proposed BBPT Activity:
Other than the Youtube video and the link to the game, the interactive poster board was a product of
my own creation through the resources on Glogster.
