Colonize and not colonize country

Before 15th and 16th 1centuries many countries are living peacefully but when the time

has past many countries are developing from education and technology. If they have more

develop they also have more power and if they have power, they also want to separate their

power to another country to get respect and be more powerful. This makes a lot of countries

that have less power and have no chance to fight need to be colonized or under control of that

country. Colonizing can be mean that expatriation or making a group of people be under their

force. They have a lot of reasons that make many countries to be under colonize, but the most

important reason is to make other country being with them like having the same religion,

having their language and having their memorial in the country that they have attacked. Also,

the coin has two sides, it can mean that country that did not be colonized can be free but they

need to watch out from another country that going to attack them. Colonization brought both

advantages and disadvantages to the countries of Southeast Asia, both pros and cons in the

area of economics, food and religion.

The Philippines is the country in Asia that have a lot of archipelagoes it about 7,000

islands. After that, both Spain and Portugal are coming in south Asia to separate they power

like the religion, tradition, and language. First Spain arrives at Cebu (become Philippine) and

makes the camp at here. 2Then Spain separate they technology very fast and Philippine local

people cannot against them, so they need to be colonized by Spain and Spain make a lot of

Philippine people are Catholic. Also the Philippines is the only country in Asia that is

Catholic too, other than the small country of East Timor. Thailand is the one country in Asian

that never been colonized but Thailand needs to have some land to exchange for surviving

from colonizing. Thailand needs to lost their land about five times to France and the total

number of the area that Thai lose is about 481,600 km2, so it makes Thailand have the land

only 513,600 km2. French offend to Thailand a lot they use the military to force Thailand but

Thailand can past that situation by making a bond with France and loose the land.3 Such as in

1893, when France and Thai have conflict together, so it have Franco-Thai War about

authorities in Indo-China. Many militaries have been die in this war. After this war end

Thailand build Victory monument for people and military that die in that situation. 4

Being colonized and not being colonized country have a lot of good things and bad things but

the things that can be seen obvious is different between their economic, religion and culture.

For Philippine economic, they have based on agriculture and some industry such as textiles,

food processing, and medicine. All of this things make the economic in Philippine grow but it

did not success in 1998 the rate growth of economic has falling to -0.5 % but in year 2007

GDP growth rate is highly to 7.3%. After that year GDP has falling down, so now the

government tries to make Philippine to be the economic country. 5Thailand economic is base

on agriculture, a lot of people know as Thailand is the largest rice export and is the largest

place that produces the rice too. So as you see this two country have different things that

make they economic grow such as Philippine is looking more high technology and Thailand

is looking more comfortable and base on their people because the most Thailand job is a

farmer.

Religion is also the another thing that we can see clearly that two of this country is

different. Most of the Philippine people is Catholic (More than 86 percent) because Spain

introduced Christianity to the Philippines in 1565 with the arrival of Miguel Lopez de

Legaspi. More than 86 percent; they also have little Protestants too but there are 4 percent of

Muslim and Buddhism6. Also in a Philippine population, a lot of people also have Spanish,

Chinese, American and Arab blood in Filipinos because there are colonize from Europe

before. Religion also effects to Filipinos such as Philippine use English and Tagalog to be the

official language of their country. Also Philippine is the third country largest using English

language, after UK and USA.

Religion in Thailand, almost 95% of Thai people are Buddhism and this is the official

religion of Thailand. This religion is base on the teaching of the Buddha named Siddhartha

Gautama. Thai people are very believing in his teaching and Thai people is very respectful

to another people that believe in different religion. Also in the second largest religion in

Thailand next from Buddhism is Islam, it is only 4% of all population. It because in the south

of Thailand they live near to Malaysia, so they have some separate religion to Thailand. 7

So the Philippines did not have their own religion but they are Catholic because

Philippine is a country that colonizes before but the good thing is they get the English

language to be the official language of their country that can speak to many countries around

the world and can make the connection to another country too. Thailand has their own

religion and Thailand also have their own language that is Thai to be the official language. So

Thailand need to learn English language to speak with foreigner because English is main

language that we use all around the world.

Food, Philippine have a lot kind of food and they also have a different culture that

makes up an eclectic blend of the tastes of foods. According to Journey mart.com (the

website that store a lot of information on many country), we will find the food in Philippine

in many types like Chinese such as noodles and the roast pig (called `Lechon this food is

very famous in the Philippine country. Another type is Spanish such as `adobo (pork or

chicken which is cooked with garlic, vinegar, soya sauce and spices). From this we can know

that Philippine have many kind of food that come from many countries to be their official

food because them has been colonize before. 8According to AmazingThailand.com Thai food

is actually have their unique most of the food look like spicy but actually they have a balance

of the tastes between spicy, sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. The most popular food in Thailand is

rice. Rice is the staple food for Thais, they eat with another meal and they eat rice every

repast. Also pad Thai noodles is very popular to Thailand too. Pad Thai made with rice,

though egg noodles (ba mee) and mungbean based glass noodles. 9Thailand never been

colonizing so the food in Thailand will not have any mixture kind of food from another

country and they have their own unique about food too. Comparing between Philippines and

Thailand, you can see that Philippine will have a lot type of food and it come from many

countries but Thailand have their own type of food.

Colonization can bring you to have both advantages and disadvantages to the

countries of Southeast Asia. It provides the English language that can be used widely

throughout the world. Philippine has some basic of economic such as when Spain colonize

Philippine. Philippine also get education and technology from them and they also absorb the

culture and food from the Spain too. But Thailand is the country that never has been

colonized. They need to lose their land but have their own kind of foods, religion, and

language. So being colonize and not colonize it have their own advantages and

disadvantages.
