catharsis

Text

Catharsis is the act of freeing ourselves of emotions or relieving emotional stress

through the process of experiencing something, often through art. 3200 ISO film has
strong contrast and grain, it lends itself well to capturing harsh, gritty subject matter.
The things that haunt our memories are often in this category. You will explore how
light and shadow can erase or hide memories through shooting a roll of 3200 ISO film.

Lakes and Reservoirs series

Color photographs that are

soaked in the specific lake
or reservoir water they
represent.

Prints are soaked for days

or weeks or even
months,and this process
impacts the layers of color
that comprise the image.
Brandt removes theprint
once it reaches its desired
look, which can range from
mostly representational
tocompletely abstract.
Use one photograph that you have taken
representing a memory (good or bad) and
destroy, erase, distort, or hide the memory that it
represents through the manipulation of the
negative, print, or by some other means. You must
have something to physically present during our
critique on Thursday 2/9, showing the original
image and your alteration.
