Midterm Reflection

Propulsion Ancillary System and Gas Turbine is a Course, recommended by

Commission of Higher Education (CHED) that will be taken by the students taking of
BS. Marine Engineering, as for their compliance to meet the higher standard of shipping
company when accepting new Cadets. This Course very knowledgeable to us
especially in our course field which is Propulsion Machinery, as a student this course
made my mind to elaborately discover the ship Propulsion principle.

In our Midterm period is a new term for us, because we also have a new
Professor. In our Lecture time, we are given also assigned to have a Group report, and
every Group have 7 members, each member have their own assigned topic, and each
group have their own Group leader. The quality of report content and structure of
presentation will be depend on leader management, also the leader should be
responsible for distribution of report to His group members. In Our group, we are
assigned to discuss, Propeller functions, description, components and the parameters
should be monitored then we Tackled out the different ways of how can propeller fit to
the propeller tail shaft, for specification, we have 2 ways of fitting a propeller into a tail
shaft, the Key arrangement and Keyless arrangement. In Key arrangement, key is
inserted through the propeller and the taper on the tail shaft. A large nut is used to
fasten and lock this key in the place, at the end of the tail shaft. On keyless
arrangement, the The propeller is mounted on the tapered section of the tail shaft and
high - pressurized oil is pumped through these groves in between the tapered section of
tail-shaft and the propeller. High pressure is built between the two parts and the
propeller is pushed up the shaft taper by a hydraulic jacking ring. When the propeller is
properly aligned on the shaft, the oil pressure is released and the oil runs back. The
release of oil pressure leaves the shaft and propeller fastened together.
