LESSON PLAN
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

LESSON ORGANISATION
Year Level: 8 Time: 9-950 Date: 16/3/2017 Students Prior Knowledge:
- cell structure and function organelles perform
Learning Area: - mitosis
biology - chromosomes and DNA
- mitosis
- meiosis basic steps and what happens

Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum

Cells are the basic units of living things;

they have specialised structures and
functions (ACSSU149)
General Capabilities (that may potentially be covered in the lesson)
Literacy Numeracy ICT Critical and Ethical Personal and Intercultural
creative thinking behaviour Social understanding

Cross-curriculum priorities (may be addressed in the lesson)
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Asia and Australias engagement with Asia Sustainability
histories and cultures
Proficiencies:(Mathematics only)
Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

define meiosis
explain how the process of meiosis occurs
how are the processes of mitosis and meiosis different?
Explain the characteristics of each stage of meiosis

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for students at educational risk:

- make sure class set of ipads is available with - easily distracted child sat next to studios
explain everything downloaded on it student who difficult to distract
- all students have login for app - vision impaired students paired with non vision
impaired- delegated speaking role

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
could the students explain meiosis in enough detail? (did they understand meiosis? Or just regurgitated
information the researched?
did I give enough time for them to finish the explain everything project with enough detail? ( could they use
the app competently? Or was it too difficult?)

was the lesson enjoyable?

Could they effectively work in pairs?

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

Did I give every student a chance for input and to do their best? (eg. Not picking the same students to answer
questions)
Did I help the students that needed it and extend the ones who found it easy? (eg. More/ different examples
of the same topic, having more work to do once finished)
Was I clear in my instructions and clarified properly if there were any problems (eg. Were there many
students asking what to do/ how to do it)
Did I cater for all the students different learning styles in someway? (eg. Use of audio, visual, written, social,
ICT examples)
Did it seem like children enjoyed the topic/ lesson? (was there positive energy in the classroom? Were
students engaged and happy?)

[OFFICIAL USE ONLY] Comments by classroom teacher, HOPP, supervisor:
