SUBJECT : NISSAN YD2K2 ENGINE COMMON RAIL SYSTEM

1. OUTLINE
The YD2K2 Engine installed on the new model NISSAN PATHFINDER employs the common
rail system. The contents of the basic system are the same as in "Common Rail System for
NISSAN YD1-K2 Type Engine" (SERVICE MANUAL No.00400013). The changed locations
are explained here.
1.1. CHANGE ITEM FOR THE YD1-K2 ENGINE COMMON RAIL SYSTEM
Change items are recorded below. Details concerning change items are recorded on the fol-
lowing pages.
The YD2K2 engine supply pump, injector and rail part number has changed.
The opening pressure for the rail pressure limiter has changed.
A QR code is employed in place of the discontinued injector correction resistor.
An intake shutter valve has been added.
The NE sensor now shares a common part number with the G sensor.
The fuel injection timing control has changed.
The DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) has changed.
The engine ECU connector diagram has changed.

4. EXPLANATION OF CHANGE ITEMS

4.1. SUPPLY PUMP
The YD2K2 engine supply pump part number has changed. There are no changes to the pump
shape or specifications.
4.2. RAIL
(1) Outline
The rail part number has changed.
The PC sensor is compatible with the new high pressure.
The opening pressure for the rail pressure limiter has changed from 200MPa to 221MPa.
(2) Rail pressure Sensor (Pc Sensor)
The pressure sensor detects the fuel pressure of the rail, and sends a signal to the engine
ECU. The sensor is made from a semiconductor that uses the Piezo resistive effect to detect
changes in electrical resistance based on the pressure applied to the elemental silicon. In com-
parison to the old model, this sensor is compatible with high pressure.

4.3. INJECTOR
(1) Outline
The injector part number has changed.
The fuel injection quantity control method has changed from the correction resistance type to
the QR (Quick Response) Code type, increasing the injection quantity accuracy.
As a result of employing the QR Code, the shape of the connector and the injector head have
also changed.

(3) QR Code
The injection quantity adjustment point has increased dramatically due to adopting the QR
Code. This has also led to equal flow characteristics from each injector and has acted to raise
combustion efficiency and lower exhaust gas.

(4) Service Work Cautions

When replacing injectors with QR codes, or the engine ECU, it is necessary to record the ID
codes in the ECU. (If the ID Codes for the installed injectors are not registered correctly, engine
failure such as rough idling and noise will result). Use specialized NISSAN service tools at a
NISSAN dealer to record the ID codes.

4.4. ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGRAM

An intake shutter valve has been added.
(1) Intake shutter valve (non-DENSO product)
By cutting intake air when the engine is not moving, vibration due to the engine being stopped
is reduced.

4.5. DESCRIPTION OF SENSOR

(1) NE Sensor
The YD1-K2 engine utilized separate part numbers for both the G sensor (949979-0090) and
the NE sensor (949979-1190). However, the YD2K2 engine utilizes the same part number
(949979-1190) for both the G and NE sensors.
4.6. FUEL INJECTION TIMING CONTROL
(1) Outline
The conventional "pilot injection" nomenclature has been changed to "pre-injection".
After-injection has been added.
(2) After injection
Due to the addition of after-injection, combustion extends over a wider range, reducing PM
(particulate matter.)
