The word crime is derived from the Latin word krinos

which means to accuse. it covers those acts which are
against social order and deserve disapprobation and
condemnation of society.

regulation or which harmful or destroy human society or
resources or which create problems in human life.
The word Crime has not been defined in the Bangladesh
Penal Code.
In its broad sense, however, it may be explained as an
act of
commission or omission which is harmful to the society
in general.
But all acts tending to prejudice the community are not
crime unless they are punishable under the law.
According to Osborn, crime is an act or default which
tends to the
Prejudice of the community, and forbidden law on pain of
punishment inflicted at the suit of the State. In its legal
sense,
therefore, crime includes such offences being acts or
defaults which
have been made punishable by the Bangladesh Penal
code.
It is apparent from the above that there is nothing which
by itself is a
crime, unless it has declared by the legislature as
punishable.

Definition of Crime

activities that
involve breaking the law:
According to Blacks Law Dictionary: An Act that the
makes
punishable the breach of a legal duty treated as the
subject matter of
a criminal proceeding.
According to Legal and Commercial Section: Ordinarily a
crime is a wrong which affects the security or well being
of the
public generally so that the public has an interest in its

1.Brave guard foils bank robbery
April 18, 2015 / LAST MODIFIED: 12:05 AM, April 18, 2015, THE Daily Star

Robbers hit him repeatedly on the head with an iron wrench. He

fell on the floor, blood spilling from his head somewhat profusely.
He remained still like a dead man for a while.
He, however, did not faint from loss of blood. Nor did he recoil in
fear. When the robbers, around three to four people, left him there
and moved inside, he determined to save the bank's coffers. So he
knew he had to act fast.
Still writhing in pain, he slowly stood up, staggered to the guard
room and locked it from inside. Then he called the bank officers,
grabbed his gun and scared the robbers away.
This is the story of Abdul Wahab Talukdar, an ordinary night guard
of Janata Bank's Sat Masjid Road Corporate Branch at Zigatola in
the capital. Perhaps you will not even notice him when you pass
the branch at night. But this ordinary man, in his sheer act of
bravery, risked his life to foil a robbery attempt on Wednesday
night.
The bank rewarded him with Tk 2,00,000 in recognition of his
bravery on Thursday.
Like any other day, I went to buy rice from a shop around
7:30pm. When I entered the branch on the first floor, I heard voices
inside and thought they might be robbers, Wahab told The Daily
Star yesterday. He suffered serious head injury and is now
undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police said the robbers had broken into the building through a
window from the back side.
One of the robbers held him tight from behind. As he tried to set
himself free, they started hitting on his head. He fell flat on the
floor. Though his head bled badly, he did not quite lose his sense.
He even heard one of the robbers saying that he had died already.
This was how Wahab narrated his story.
I lay silent for a few minutes, made my way slowly to the guard's
room and called my officers to bring police," he said.
Then he took his gun from an Almira. Seeing a gun in his hand, the
robbers fled away.
Fahmida Rahman, assistant manager of the branch, arrived there
quickly with police and took him to hospital.
The police thanked him heartily.
Asked about the way he was recognised by the bank, Wahab said
he is happy for it.
Thanking the bank management for the reward, he said, While on
duty, my responsibility is to protect the organisation even if it has
to be done at the cost of my life.
Janata Bank Chairman Shaikh Md Wahid-Uz-Zaman said, Such
an act of bravery is not expected from an ordinary person like him.
The bravery he has shown definitely deserves recognition.
Hailing from Shibchar in Madaripur district, Wahab, now 50 years
old, has been serving the bank as a security guard for 28 years. His
job was made permanent in 2012 and now he earns around Tk
11,000 with which he runs his family and bears the educational
expenses of his two daughters studying at higher secondary level.
A case has been filed with Hazaribagh police station in this
connection.

2.Probe on into student killing

April 18, 2015 / LAST MODIFIED: 12:07 AM, April 18, 2015

The authorities of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology

University (HSTU) in Dinajpur yesterday formed a five-member probe
committee to investigate Thursday's clash that left two BCL activists dead
on the HSTU campus.

The probe committee, led by Prof Anis Khan, dean of the Agriculture
Faculty of the university, was asked to submit its report within two working
days.

Besides, the university authorities have decided to continue regular

academic activities, including classes and examinations.
ATM Shafiqul Islam, proctor of the HSTU, said the university had decided
to file a case. He, however, did not specify when the case would be lodged.

Vice Chancellor Prof Ruhul Amin said steps would be taken against the
killers after investigation.

On Thursday night, two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were

killed and 10 others injured in a clash between two rival groups of the
university unit of the ruling Awami League's student wing.

The dead are Mohammad Zakaria, a second year BBA student and
Mahmudul Hasan Milton, a final year student of Agriculture department.

Police recovered Zakaria's body from the roof of Nur Hossain Hall after the
clash while Milton died at the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital.

The bodies were handed over to their families around 4:30pm after
autopsies, police said.

Another student Mohammad Dollar is fighting for his life at Rangpur

Medical College Hospital after he suffered stab wounds during Thursday's
clash.

The faction of the BCL, who swooped on a cultural programme at the

university auditorium, was led by Iftekharul Islam Real and Arun Kanti Roy,
president and general secretary of BCL university unit.

A pall of gloom descended on Zakaria's home as soon as the family heard

the news of his death.

Mostaque Ahmed, father of Zakaria, said all his dreams were shattered with
his son's death.

He [Zakaria] said he would take over the responsibility of the family once
his education was complete. But everything is gone now, he lamented.

He blamed dirty politics for his son's death.

Zakaria's mother Jannatul Ferdous alleged that Iftekharul Islam Real was
responsible for her son's death.

Nothing could soothe Zakaria's sister Meem who had been crying since she
heard the news of her brother's death.
Sadekur Rahman, assistant proctor of the HSTU, said the clash took place as
students, who were expelled from the university in November last year for
cheating in admission test, wanted to make a comeback to the campus.

The HSTU authorities had expelled three students -- Arun Kanti Roy, Zahid
Hasan and Aditya Dutta -- for their alleged involvement in the cheating.
