SUBJECT: Consider a resolution accepting a donation of $31,000 from the Erling Lagerholm
Living Trust for landscape improvements

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution accepting a donation of $31,000 from the Erling Lagerholm Living Trust for landscape
improvements.

BACKGROUND / SUMMARY
The City received a check for $31,000 as part of a partial trust distribution from the Earl Lagerholm Living
Trust. Consistent with City policy C89-41, All donations and gifts with a value in excess of $1,000 must be
approved and accepted by a resolution of the City Council. The correspondence from the Trust indicates that
the funds should be used for landscape improvements.
There are a variety of maintenance and beatification projects in the Village, including at Devendorf Park, Forest
Hill Park, the Mission Trail Nature Preserve, Ocean Avenue medians and the Scenic Pathway that would be a
consistent use of these funds based on the board category of landscape improvements. Staff will bring such
projects forward for Council consideration as part of the upcoming capital improvement project and budget
discussions. However, at this point in time, it is requested that Council accept the donation in order to (1) allow
the check to be deposited into a newly created City deposit account specifically for this purpose and (2) enable
staff to return the requested paperwork back to the Trust acknowledging the receipt of the funds.

FISCAL IMPACT
Council acceptance of the donation will result in the City receding $31,000 to use toward landscape projects.
