Pasadena Elementary School

VISION STATEMENT

We envision Pasadena Elementary to be a school where we maintain high expectations for academic standards through
rigorous instruction. We will continue to foster a positive, caring school climate where we respect and value diversity and
prepare individuals for success in higher learning and careers.

Dear Panther Families,

This month started with spirit days to celebrate Dr. Seuss birthday, and throughout the month, we will continue
to celebrate reading by participating in Hit a Home Run with the Bowie Baysox. Please continue to encourage
your child to read at home each day, and submit the reading log. All students received a book, compliments of the
Pasadena Elementary PTA. As Dr. Seuss said, The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more
that you learn, the more places youll go. With your support of reading at home, our school staff will contrive to
strive for all students to meet or exceed grade level reading expectations. Our Little Free Library is low on books
so please feel free to add any books as this is one more way to keep Pasadena green and support reading!
We look forward to many parents participating in the March 3rd parent teacher conference day. This date has
been set aside in the calendar to meet with the classroom teacher(s); take a closer look at PARCC Practice Tests;
complete the MDS3 Survey; and learn more about reading levels, Chessie, Hour of Code, and Makers Space.
Looking ahead at the 2017-2018 school calendar, please note there are two days set aside for parent conferences.
All students in grades 3-5 will participate in PARCC English Language Arts and Math assessments during the
testing window (between mid-April and May). Our 3rd grade students will complete the assessment using paper-
pencil; our 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the test online using desktops, laptops, and ChromeBooks.
Please do your best in getting to school on-time daily, and avoid scheduling medical appointments if possible.
These assessments will be administered: Grade 3: April 24-27 and May 1-4; Grade 4: May 8-11 and May 15-18;
and Grade 5: April 24-27 and May 1-4. To sign-up for snacks on PARCC days, please visit:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e44a8ac2aa6fd0-pesparcc.
Parents wishing to complete the necessary paperwork for Out-of-Area transfers for the 2017-2018 school year
can now obtain information from www.aacps.org/outofarea. An Out-of-Area transfer is necessary for a student to
attend a school within the county other than his or her assigned school. The application must be completed and
submitted each school year, even for children who already attend a school under an approved Out-of-Area
transfer. The continuation is not automatic. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions section of the page
before filling out any applications. Additional information, including how to submit an Out-of-Area transfer
request, how the approval process works, changes in the process from previous years and new online
applications for elementary and secondary students, is available on the site. Submit between March 1 May 1,
annually.
Please note Pasadena Elementary School will be closed during Spring Break, from April 10-17.
Please email me at jquirino@aacps.org if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Thank you for your support,

Jennifer Quirino
Principal

Community Partner:
Pasadena Elementary School will be having our 7th annual 5K and 1 mile Fun Run. This event is
important to our school and community to promote healthy habits and lifestyles for every child, parent,
teacher, and community member. The 5K and 1 mile Fun Run will benefit the cultural arts programs at
Pasadena Elementary School.
We are looking for nearby businesses and community partners to sponsor our event which will take
place on Saturday, May 13, 2017. On the reverse side is a list of the three levels of sponsorship we
have; Gold, Silver and Bronze and what each level includes. Each year we have over 100 participants
complete the event. We also use official race timing chips and the participants have enjoyed this
bonus.
As rewards for the winners of the 5K, we are hoping to offer prizes, certificates, and gift cards from
nearby businesses. Please consider donating an item(s) that is age appropriate (child or adult) or a gift
card. Monetary contributions are always welcomed to offset the costs of holding our event.
This year for the first time, we are adding a Health and Wellness component to our event. If your
business would like to set up an information table the morning of our event, please contact us for
additional details.
Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you.
