Spaying of females involves the removal of the entire reproductive tract and neutering of males is done by removing the testicles which stops them from breeding. Spaying/neutering your pet is good for pets. They live longer and healthier lives, females will be protected from getting pyometra, a life threating infection of the uterus, have a reduced chance of suffering from ovarian and uterine breast cancers, and males have a reduced chance of getting testicular and prostate cancer. Spaying/neutering your pet is good for you the owner with the benefits you will see include elimination of unwanted behaviours such as roaming the neighbourhood, spraying of urine and fighting. Spaying/neutering your pet is good for the community. Irresponsible breeding results in a large number of abandoned and dogs/cats, which roam the neglected neighbourhood, sometimes attacking people, entering yards looking for food and increasing the chances of human exposure to the deadly disease rabies. Too many dogs and cats aren’t wanted anywhere by anybody, so they are treated as disposable items instead of living creatures, dumped in drains, rivers and if lucky at animal shelters.
