Smart Grid Updates: Policy, Regulations & Standards
MPERC Issued Smart Grid Regulations
Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) issued Smart Grid Regulations on the similar lines of Model Smart Grid
Regulations issued by Forum of Regulators. These regulations will be applicable to all Generating Companies, Transmission Licensees,
Distribution Licensees and consumers in the State and connected to the state grid. The objectives of these Regulations are to enable
integration of various smart grid technologies and measures to bring about economy, efficiency improvement in generation,
transmission and distribution licensee operations, manage the transmission and distribution networks effectively, enhance network
security, integrate renewable and clean energy into the grid and micro grids.

UK Issues Funding for EV Grid Infrastructure Development
UK Ministry of Finance will provide $484 million in funding to ensure the nations grid infrastructure is able to support the growing
number of EVs and autonomous vehicles. The capital will be used to fund clean energy projects to ensure the UK contributes at least
12 to 15GW of electricity to boost grid reliability. The money will fund development of EV charging stations as well as manufacturing of
EVs and autonomous vehicles. In addition, the UK government agreed to draft and implement policies to support an increased
manufacturing of EVs, EV infrastructure development and the adoption of UK manufactured EVs, locally and abroad.

ISO Approves Standard that Integrates Control Technologies into the Grid
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved ANSI/ASHRAE/NEMA Standard 201-2016, Facility Smart Grid Information
Model (FSGIM), which helps electrical energy consumers participate in smart grid networks. The standard, published earlier this year by
ASHRAE and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), provides a common basis for consumers to describe, manage,
and communicate about electrical energy consumptions and forecast. This basis facilitates information exchange between control
systems and end-use devices, thereby supporting two-way flow of electricity.

FERC Proposes Changes to Large Generator Interconnection Process
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has proposed reforms to its large generator interconnection processes with an aim of
improving the efficiency of interconnection requests and removing barriers to resource development. The Notice of Proposed
Rulemaking (NOPR) has three broad categories: improving predictability in the interconnection process; improving transparency for
interconnection customers, and making use of underutilized existing interconnections. The NOPR applies to large generating facilities,
but also seeks comment on whether any of the proposed reforms should be applied to small generating facilities of 20 MW or less.
