I Purpose of this course

As people engage in the path of yoga, they may wonder: why is yoga so compelling?
This course is a way for people of all levels to explore yogas origins, mechanics and impacts.

II Course Objective:

This 200-hour teacher training class is designed to:



Provide well-rounded introduction to the basic components of yoga as a solid foundation on
which trainees can build and grow their practice.

Help trainees deepen their understanding of not only the physical, but also the spiritual and
philosophical aspects of yoga.

Guide trainees on their personal paths to yoga and how it applies to their own lives.

Develop trainees teaching skills so they can share the benefits of yoga with others.


III - Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the 200-hour Teacher Training program, trainees should:


Have greater clarity as to why they have come to yoga
Enjoy a higher level of confidence in their understanding of yoga
Be able to move deeper into their practice, their understanding of movement and
breath, and their desire to explore the founding texts of this timeless discipline
Begin to guide others in their practice

IV - Areas of studies:

Techniques, Training and Practice (100 hours)
o Pralaya Yoga Principles
o Decomposing asanas
! Finding and ensuring proper alignment (physical & energetic)
! Using asanas to relieve temporary aches and pains
! Injury prevention and management
o weekly Pralaya practice
o Exploration of different types of yoga (kundalini, hatha, Ashtanga)
o Exploration of mantras, mudras, and sanskrit
o Meditation
o Pranayama
o Ayurveda

Teaching Methodology (25 hours)
o Ethics (teacher / student relationship)
o Creating a safe class room (judgment free, injury awareness)
o Guidelines for leading a class (feel, flow, timing, diverse levels & personalities)
o Word choice and communication
o Adjustments and adaptations

Anatomy and Physiology (25 hours)
o Skeletal structure : Bones
o Muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and cartilage
o Fascia
o The autonomic Nervous System
o Digestive system (the role of the gut)
o Energetic Fields meridians and chakras

Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers (30 hours)
o What is yoga (principles and history)
o Yoga Sutras (book 1 and 2 mostly)
o Principles of the Samkhya philosophy
o Bhagavad Gita

Practicum (20 hours)
o Class observation
o Teaching (discussion and feedback)

Total: 200 hours

V - Format:

A weekly lecture with the primary instructor will be held over the course of a nine month
period, from October to June. Lecture topics : anatomy, philosophy, ethics, pranayama,
ayurveda, asanas, adapting and correcting postures.

up to 70 yoga classes at Dharma yoga. You are encouraged to follow at least 2 classes per
week. It is also recommended that you observe classes

VII - Assignments:

Trainees are given a workbook at the beginning of the course to help them prepare for each
class and guide them through the program and its various modules. A specific portion of the
workbook must be completed prior to each class. This is a support resource designed to
help trainees better reflect on the readings and more actively engage in the discussions.

After each module trainees submit written answers to a series of questions.



To complete the course, trainees must submit a 10-page paper on a topic of their choice,
approved by the primary instructor.

VIII. Behavior

The studio promotes a space of trust and non-judgement.

We therefore expect trainees to be respectful of other trainees, teachers and students, to have
a welcoming and friendly attitude, and to keep an open mind towards diverse views and
opinions.

Trainees are expected to fulfill all assignment requirement.

Trainees are encouraged to study together and practice together if needed.
