2.3 Functional Description

2.3.1 Output level monitoring function (Downlink and Uplink)

The transmit signals strength are detected in power amplifier and it monitors on OMC
terminal.
The monitoring range is as below
- Downlink path : +5dBm ~ +40dBm

Confidential & Proprietary 9/37

[figure 5. Output level monitoring block diagram]

2.3.2 Output power ALC function (Auto level control, power limit)

It is system output level limit function. It performs in RF module based on monitoring

value.
When output level occurs higher than the limited value, Attenuator operates increasing
attenuator value to prevent exceed the limited value on GUI
The error range is 1.5 dB.

2.3.3 System Gain Control

It performs attenuator in RF Module and provides output level control through system
gain control to meet installation environment.

- Range : 30dB
- Gain error range : within 0.9 dB

Gain control for Uplink path performs to apply offset value within 0 ~ 15dB and it is in
proportion with downlink gain.

Input signal changes factor

- Attenuation values change caused by environment changes between BTS
antenna and Repeater antenna(Donor)
- Input changes caused by BTS traffic variation
Compensation method
- Using ALC function

2.3.4 Temperature compensation function

According to the temperature variation, it effects on gain variation. If user requires

temperature compensation function on the system, it supports ON/OFF control.

Main control unit detects the system temperature and performs temperature
compensation function comparing compensation table parameter. It controls
compensation attenuator in RF Module.

And also, system has sensitive thermal PAD, it minimize gain variation caused by

Confidential & Proprietary 10/37

temperature changes. Downlink and Uplink circuits are performed separately.

[Figure 6. Temperature compensation block diagram]

2.3.5 Alarm function

Using the GUI screen, user easily find out the system status.
- Normal operation, Shutdown, AMP operation and others

2.4 Power supply Unit

It provide DC power into the system from AC 220V.

Item Specification Remark

Rated input voltage AC 110~ 220V (AC100~264V)

60HZ (3.0KHz)

DC +27V/4A

3. System Block Diagram

3.1 System Block Diagram
5W WCDMA RF system has one body including RF and control functionality. It consists
of control board, Power supply, and wireless modem ( Option ) for remote
maintenance.

The following figure shows the system architecture and signal flow.

[Figure 7. System Block Diagram]

Confidential & Proprietary 12/37

3.1.1 Down Link Block Diagram

[Figure 8. Down link block diagram]

When the Base Stations signal inputs to Donor Antenna (or Link Antenna) through air
interface, the reverse signal extracts from Duplexer.
After that, the divided signal converts IF frequency through LNA and BPF(Band Path
Filter).

The converted IF signal go through IF SAW Filter and amplifying. It processing in DSP
board for elimination of feedback signal and it converts RF frequency.

- ALC function performs by detector and control board in HPA.

- To meet and increase the out-of-band gain, system has IF SAW filter.
- The system has been adopt High IP3 Point elements to maintain the good
linear characteristic such as LNA, ALC Attenuator, Mixer, MMIC and AMP.

The amplified signal at final AMP goes to antenna through Duplexer.

Confidential & Proprietary 13/37

3.1.2 Up Link block diagram

[Figure 9. Uplink block diagram]

When the mobile station signal receives at service antenna through air interface, the
signal is divide between forward signal by Duplexer.

The signal converts IF frequency through amplifies by LNA and go through BPF.
The basic circuit architecture is the same as the Downlink path, only different thing is
system gain control characteristic.

4. Malfunctions and Inspections
