AJISDs Phoenix Heats Up The Game

By: Immanuel Cris Palasigue and Samuel Mateo

Al-Jazeera International School in Dammam (AJISD) is one of the three
schools who played in the 1st OKOR Sports fest. The event was held in the
court of Al-Jazeera International School in Dammam (AJISD) and International
Philippine School in Al-Khobar (IPSA). The competition between these three
schools started on the 6th day of January of the year of 2012 and ended on
12th day of January 2012. With Al-Andalus International School (AAIS) and
International Philippine School in Al-Khobar (IPSA) as their opponents,
friendships were withhold and temporarily forgotten and everyone is an
enemy. In basketball, volleyball and also in chess, Al-Jazeera International
School in Dammam (AJISD) stood out in every competition. We won dozens of
awards which will be renowned for a long time.

In chess, we took the spotlight with our very own Abe Caesar Perez
when he took home the Gold Medal beating Raja Delarosa from Al-Andalus
International School (AAIS) in a tiebreaker. The AJISDs students were so
proud when Aeron Lorenz Opalec, Jonathan Marquez, and Donmig Cunanan
won the Silver Medal beating _________. We took pride when Shekinah Gwen
David, Dianne Cunanan, Rolf Catanus, and Erdy Dayrit took the bronze medal
home with great honor. Minds of the students were struggling to beat each
other but Al-Jazeera Interna tional School in Dammam (AJISD) took over
when they won Silver in High school Division and Bronze in Elementary
Division.

In volleyball, the AJISDs very own Dave Morales was crowned as the
Best Spiker. We are also given the award of 2 nd runner up in this OKOR Sport
fest. In girls division, we are also crowned as the 2 nd runner-up in the
tournament. Our volleyball coach, Mrs. Nikki Catanus, was so proud that all
her work to train the team paid off for these awards.

AJISD takes over the hard court when they swept AAIS out of the way in
their breathtaking last game inning 55-52, earning as a shot in 1 st runner up
position in the Basketball category. The students were thrilled with the
Phoenixs close fight against AAIS with the score of 5 points for the Phoenix
and 8 for the AAIS Lions in the First Quarter, 19 to 19 in the Second Quarter,
and 36 points for the Phoenix and 27 points for the Lions in the Third
Quarter.

Among the First five of the Phoenix were: Dave Russel Morales, Klyde
Dominic Vicenta, John Martin Calibuso, Patrick Justin Hernandez, and
Abdulhrahman Mark Al-Dossary. The students from AJISD were so delighted
when Patrick Hernandez and Klyde Dominic Vicenta swept AAIS off their feet
on the first half of the game. The spectators from AAIS were shocked and
frustrated when Dave Russel Morales, Riego Derick Rivera Tamanio, and John
Martin Calibuso entered and dominated the court. Together with
Abdulhrahman Al-Dossary, Kendall Roi Vicenta, and Yasser Anam, the
Phoenix rose up and conquered the game. Dave Morales of AJISD was
awarded with the title of Best Point Guard and asked to join the Mythical Five.
Klyde Dominic Vicenta ensured our victory with the score of 27 points along
with Patrick Hernandez who shot 10 points, JM Calibuso who shot 8 points
and Dave Morales who shot 6 points. The basketball coaches, Mr. Arthur
Calibuso and James Castro, were really proud that the team that they worked
so hard to train won these overwhelming awards. Even though the AJISDs
women volleyball varsity ended up as 2 nd runner up on the tournament, our
basketball team rose up to the top with their heart-racing wins against AAIS.
Just because we didnt win one match, it doesnt mean we should give up in
reaching for the ultimate prize. Go, AJISD!
