TheCentralStatisticsOrganisationisresponsibleforcoordinationofstatisticalactivitiesinthecountry,and
evolvingandmaintainingstatisticalstandards.ItsactivitiesincludeNationalIncomeAccountingconductof
AnnualSurveyofIndustries,EconomicCensusesanditsfollowupsurveys,compilationofIndexofIndustrial
Production,aswellasConsumerPriceIndicesforUrbanNonManualEmployees,HumanDevelopment
Statistics,GenderStatistics,impartingtraininginOfficialStatistics,FiveYearPlanworkrelatingto
DevelopmentofStatisticsintheStatesandUnionTerritoriesdisseminationofstatisticalinformation,work
relatingtotrade,energy,construction,andenvironmentstatistics,revisionofNationalIndustrialClassification,
etc.

Organisation
TheCSOisheadedbytheDirectorGeneralwhoisassistedbyFiveadditionalDirectorGeneralsandfour
DeputyDirectorGenerals,sixJointDirectors,sevenspecialtaskofficers,thirtydeputydirectors,48assistant
directorsandothersupportingstaff.TheCSOislocatedinDelhi.

Functions
TheCentralStatisticaloffice(CSO)intheMinistryofStatisticsandProgrammeImplementation(MoSP&I)is
responsibleforthecompilationofNationalAccountsStatistics(NAS).AttheStatelevel,StateDirectoratesof
EconomicsandStatistics(DESs)havetheresponsibilityofcompilingthereStateDomesticProductandother
aggregates.
