Power cable connection Generator

General information and related technical instructions

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION no:
- TI 1100-0112 (Installation of GE Jenbacher Unit)
- TI 1000-0505 (EMC suited execution of cabling)

General:
The installation company should maintain
and/or check the cable diameter for power
cables in accordance with IEC 364-5-523.
Cables are to be fixed with cable clamps and
cable trays

The relative movement between the

aggregate and the foundation must
be compensated by a sufficient long
free cable length between the cable
attachment to the aggregate
and the foundation.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION no: 1100-0112 (INSTALLATION OF GE JENBACHER UNITS, Section 7.6.2)

Medium- voltage cable:

Flexible, finely stranded, copper single conductors must be used!
Conductor stranding: in accordance with IEC 60228/ CENELEC HD 383/ VDE 0295 Class 5

Recommended:
- FELTOFLEX Typ. NTMCWOEU (Single-core conductor),
- PROTOLON Typ. NTMCGCWU (Single-core conductor),
Stress cone ends at generator connection:
The available space between the terminal clamps (isolator) and the strain relief brackets is approx.
300 mm. Consequently, only "short" stress cones can be used..

Cable lugs:
These should be dimensioned in such a way that they are suitable for the powers (vibrations)
occurring in the generator.
Screwed cable glands:
nickel-plated brass (no threaded plastic connections) or the built-in rubber glands

Rating:
It must ensure that the impulse level as seen at the generator terminals is reduced to less than:
Crest value kV = 1,25 2 (2Vline+1).
e.g. for a 10 kV generator: 1,25 1,414 (210 + 1) 37,1 kV
The maximum front rise time of the calculated value above is 5 micro seconds.

Protection:
By combination of capacitors/resistors and varistors:
e.g.: High frequency transient surge suppressors
