Death Came to See Me in Hot Pink Pants

BIOGRAPHY:
Heather works as a consultant and as a poet. She was educated in Jamaica and
the United States; Heather has travelled to various places due to her work. She has
been publishing her work since the 1970s. Her poems have been included in the:
Heinemann Book of Caribbean Poetry, Penguin Book of Caribbean Verse,
the Oxford Book of Caribbean Verse and Seven Jamaican Women Writers.

POEM:
Death Came to See Me in Hot Pink Pants
Overview:
The persona is recalling a dream he had about death. In the dream, death
came to visit him. He describes Death as a Beautiful black saga boy wearing hot
pink pants with a matching waist coat. The persona also describes the events that
occurred in the dream.

Vocab:
1. Waistcoat- a vest, especially one worn by men over a shirt and under a
jacket.
2. Sequins- a small, shiny disk sewn as one of many onto clothing for
decoration.
3. saga boy- also known as star boy, a male who is cool and dresses nice; one
who dresses to impress and attracts female attention.
