We should love nature and all living beings

In Chapter 1, we can see that Richard is a sensitive person who

loves all living beings and appreciates Mother Nature. He
dislikes hunting or killing animals. (Main content point) To
illustrate, he feels sad when he remembers how his grandfather
killed a deer when he was eight. (Elaboration) In my opinion,
we should learn to love our environment and all animals as they
are Gods creations. (Personal opinion)
