LOGIC- a science that deals with the principles and criteria of validity of inference and

demonstration : the science of the formal principles of reasoning: the formal principles of a
branch of knowledge.

THEORY- a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one


based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained. A belief, policy, or
procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action

SYLLOGISM- an instance of a form of reasoning in which a conclusion is drawn (whether


validly or not) from two given or assumed propositions (premises), each of which shares a
term with the conclusion, and shares a common or middle term not present in the conclusion
(e.g., all dogs are animals; all animals have four legs; therefore all dogs have four legs ).

UNPARALLED- having no parallel or equal; exceptional.

THOUGHT- an idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind. The
act of thinking about something to form ideas and opinions, or an idea or opinion produced
by thinking

HELLEMISTIC- relating to Greek history, language, and culture from the death of Alexander
the Great to the defeat of Cleopatra and Mark Antony by Octavian in 31 BC. During this
period Greek culture flourished, spreading through the Mediterranean and into the Near East
and Asia and centering on Alexandria in Egypt and Pergamum in Turkey.

STOIC- a person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or
complaining. Being stoic is being calm and almost without any emotion. When you're stoic,
you don't show what you're feeling and you also accept whatever is happening.

CHRYSIPPUS- was a Greek Stoic philosopher. He was a native of Soli, Cilicia, but moved to
Athens as a young man, where he became a pupil of Cleanthes in the Stoic school.

ANTIQUITY- the ancient past, especially the period before the Middle Ages. Usually,
antiquities. Something belonging to or remaining from ancient times, as
monuments, relics, or customs.
COMMENTATORS- a person who delivers a live commentary on an event or performance. A
person who discusses news, sports events, weather, or the like, as on television or radio.

DOMINANT- means to be in control. In a wolf pack, one male wolf fights the others, wins, and
is considered the dominant, or alpha male. The other wolves in the pack do what he tells
them.

TRANSMITTED- to pass on from one place or person to another. To send from one person,
thing, or place to another.

MEDIEVAL- Relating or belonging to the Middle Ages. Relating to a historical period roughly
coinciding with the European Middle Ages and characterized by feudal or aristocratic social
structures, as in Japan or China.

TRADITIONS- the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the


fact of being passed on in this way.

UNIQUE- being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else. Being the only existing one of
its type or, more generally, unusual or special in some way.

POSITION- a place where someone or something is located or has been put. A particular way
in which someone or something is placed or arranged.
CONTRIBUTED- give (something, especially money) in order to help achieve or provide
something. To help by providing money or support, esp. when other people or conditions are
also helping.

CONFUSED- to cause someone to feel uncertain or unclear, or to make something difficult to


understand. Unable to think clearly or to understand something.

PERVERSE- showing a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is


unreasonable or unacceptable, often in spite of the consequences.

ADHERENTS- someone who supports a particular party, person, or set of ideas. Someone
who strongly supports an idea, plan, person, etc.

DESCENDANTS- a person, plant, or animal that is descended from a particular ancestor. A


person related to someone from an earlier generation.

RIVALS- a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in
the same field of activity.

NOTIONS- a conception of or belief about something. A notion is an idea, often vague and
sometimes fanciful.

TECHNIQUES- a skillful or efficient way of doing or achieving something. A way of carrying


out a particular task, especially the execution or performance of an artistic work or a
scientific procedure.

REVEALING- making interesting or significant information known, especially about a person's


attitude or character. Revealing also means explaining more than you might expect.

APPROACH- to come near to in quality, character, time, or condition; to come within range
for comparison.

PERSPECTIVE- the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the
right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when
viewed from a particular point.

REMARKABLE- worthy of attention; striking. Something remarkable is unusual, exceptional,


interesting, or excellent. Remarkable things get your attention.

COMPRISE- to include especially within a particular scope < civilization as Lenin used the

SIGNIFICANT- sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy. Means
the person who's most important in your life. A significant result in a scientific study is a
result large enough to matter.

REVERSAL- a change to an opposite direction, position, or course of action. A reversing or


being reversed; esp., a change to the opposite as in one's fortune
