5-13. ) Describe the potential risk of permitting romance in the work place. How and to what

degree may these risk affect the organization and its employees?

=> Permitting romance in workplace can lead to unprofessionalism. The employees working

may not be able to concentrate on their work and give their best. This eventually gets reflected

on their job performance and the quality of the work done. Other employees may not be

comfortable working in such environment and may find it difficult to concentrate on their part of

work. So if none of the employees are able to concentrate on their such organizations will fail in

no time.

5-14.) As a department supervisor, what decision(s) should Destiny make in regard to this

romance? How would you respond to other employees uneasiness, while still maintaining an

ethical stance towards the situation? Explain.

=> As a department supervisor Destiny should talk to Timothy and Rebecca, and try to find out

whats going on between them. If they really are having strong feelings towards each other,

Destiny should let them know to keep professionalism while working and take their romance out

of the work place. Destiny should let them know about the discomfort of other employees with

their public display of romance in work place. If I were in Destinys place i would ask Timothy
and Rebecca to keep their relationship out of the workplace. I would ask both of them to not

display their physical relationship openly as it made other employees uncomfortable.

5-15.) Upon acceptance of employment, should new hires be required to sign and agree to

contract to keep all relationships in the workplace platonic? If so, what consequences would

result from breaking this upfront contract?

=> I think it is a good idea to make the new hires sign and agree to contract to keep all

relationships in workplace platonic. People in workplace may come from different cultural

backgrounds and they might not appreciate the public display of their romance. If the

relationship in workplace goes beyond platonic, the working environment becomes polluted. The

employees will not be able perform their best, as there will always be some sort of distractions.

After all workplace is meant for working and anything more than platonic can wait after the

working hours are over. If this contract is broken the person involved should be asked to leave

the company or be transferred to some other department or location.

CASE 5-B:

5-16.) Why is it important for Jameel to know about the laws and regulations that affect human

resource practice ?
=> It is important for Jameel to know about the laws and regulations that affect human resource

practice because he will be working as a staffing supervisor and also managing part-time

temporary work for several local companies. Thus he will be dealing with a lot of hiring process

and he needs to have the knowledge about equal employment laws, and selection process

regardless of race, sex, religion, nationality and color.

5-17.) Why is it important for Jameel to know how to determine staffing needs?

=> It is important for Jameel to know how to determine staffing needs because sometimes

companies fall short in employees in completing some projects on time and they need to hire

some new employees. In such situation Jameel can do employment planning by looking at the

current number of employees and employees need in the near future to complete certain project,

he can figure out the numbers of employees needed.

5-18.) What are some recruiting methods that Jameel might use to ensure that he has the right

employees to match the needs of employers?

=> He can do that by going through the resume of the employee, or by evaluating their job

experience.

5-19.) Research the employment selection process of three businesses in your community. Ask

questions like these: What type of and how much testing do they require? Is an applicant, resume
or work sample required? who conducts the interview and how long are they? Who makes the

final decision to hire a new employee? How long is the process?

=> a.) Convenient Store (cashiers job)

Applicant resume is not required.. If there is a recommendation the chances of getting the job is

higher. Onsite testing is done. The interview is conducted by the store manager or the owner

himself/herself. The interview generally lasts from 5 to 10 minutes. The manager or the owner

makes the final decision and the hiring process lasts from 1 to 2 days.

b. ) Uber drivers

Job application is required. Background testing and drugs testing is done. A permit from city of

Houston is required. Resume or work sample is not required. A representative from the company

will inspect the vehicle and driving skill and the driver is ready to work. The whole hiring

process lasts from 7 to 10 days.

c.) Taco Bell

For the starting position no testing is required. The interview is conducted by the store manager

and the interview lasts from 10- 15 minutes. Work sample or resume is not required. The

decision to hire is made by the manager and the hiring process is about an hour.
