BIOLOGY LESSON PLAN

Subject: Cell biology

Topic: Sex linked inheritance
Main skill: Understand,interpret and apply.
Analyze Student: Form 5
learners No of students: 40 students
Age: 17 years
Duration: 50 minutes
Level: average

State 1. Students must able to define about sex linked inheritance in accurate
objectives based on types of chromosomes.
2. When given a genetic disorder, students will be able to identify and
differentiate the mode of inheritance correctly.
3. Given the mode of inheritance, students will predict the probability of
a disorder being passed on to the next generation correctly for at least
2 of the 3 disorders
4. Students will able to differentiate the effects of sex-linked inheritance
and other mode of inheritance.
5. Construct and analyze Punnett square for genetic crosses involving
sex-linked inheritance.
6. Based on pedigree analysis student must able to identify sex linked
inheritance and can calculate the probability of passing the
inheritance.

Select media, 1.Youtube video: sex linked inheritance

materials, and 2. Power Point presentation covering modes of inheritance
methods 3. Access to Microsoft Word and Power Point
4.Virtual lab: Sex linked traits
5. Usage of computer lab.

Utilize media, 1. Youtube video is used to give a detailed image about the topic after
materials, and each explanation to create interest.
methods 2. Power Point is used to give short and precise notes about the topic
that will be covered. It is also used to go over important background
information that will be necessary for the student to be successful
understand about the topic.
3. Microsoft Word should be available for students to type their final
product. Power Point can be used to make pedigree symbols.
4. Virtual lab is used to apply the knowledge about the topic
instantaneously without the need of materials and apparatus to run
the real experiment. Students able to interact and learn in a fun way.
Require 1. Group Work: After the class is divided into groups, each group is
learner assigned with a topic under the topic of sex linked inheritance which
participation corresponds to a different genetic disorder. This ensures that all
students have a part in the discussion. Do simple presentation after
group discussion to able to understand their knowledge about the
topic.

2. Student task: Each student is required to access and use Virtual lab.
In the end, all students will be tested with simple quiz to determine
their understanding on the topic covered.

3. Teacher task: Provide feedback constantly during this lecture and

online. All information is available using the website resources, but
some students may have difficulty choosing which information is
pertinent to the assignment at hand. Make sure that there is
appropriate use of time by reminding students what is expected from
them.

Evaluate and Student Performance: Measured using the evaluation of the Quiz and group
revise works presentation. The rubric for presentation includes how to measure the
groups team work, value of the information, validity of the points, drawing
of the family pedigree, and correctness of the probability calculations of
inheriting the various disorders.

Media Effectiveness: If it seems that the computers need to be used for a

greater amount of time, you may want to make sure you have scheduled the
lab for more days than you predict. Some students who take advantage of the
group work by talking inappropriately may need to be separated from the
group and given an assignment to complete individually.

Instructor Performance: It is the instructors job to make sure that the Virtual
lab and websites are fully functional before unleashing the students. Teacher
are also responsible for assigning any due dates and letting students know
when they will be able to use the computers. If the instructor becomes aware
that the members of the group are not participating fairly, he or she may have
to make some modifications to the rubric or previous group assignments.
Teacher also have to make sure that no students are cheating during quizzes
to avoid unfairness to others.
