1. Calculate the specific volume of an air-vapour mixture in cubic meters per kilogram of dry air when
the following conditions prevail: temperature; T = 30C, humidity ratio; w = 0.015 kg/kg, and total
pressure; Pt = 90 kPa.

2. A house contains air at 25C and 65 percent relative humidity. Will any moisture condense on the inner
surfaces of the windows when the temperature of the window drops to 10C.

3. A sample of air has a dry-bulb temperature of 30C and wet-bulb temperature of 25C. The barometric
pressure is 101 kPa. Using steam tables, calculate (a) the humidity ratio if this air is adiabatically
saturated, (b) the enthalpy of the air if it is adiabatically saturated, (c) the humidity ratio of the sample,
(d) the partial pressure of water vapour in the sample, and (e) the relative humidity.

4. An air-vapour mixture has a dry-bulb temperature of 30C and a humidity ratio of 0.015. Calculate at
two different barometric pressures, 85 and 101 kPa, (a) the enthalpy and (b) the dew-point temperature.

5. Air enters a window air conditioners at 1 atm, 32C, and 70 percent relative humidity at a rate of 3
m3/min, and it leaves as saturated air at 12C. Part of the moisture in the air that condenses during the
process is also removed at 12C. Determine the rates of heat and moisture removal from the air.

6. The dry-bulb and the wet-bulb temperatures of a moist air mixture are given as Tdb = 30C and Twb =
23C. Find the other properties of this moist air, i.e. relative humidity, humidity ratio, dew-point
temperature, enthalpy and specific volume.

7. Moist air at 35C, RH 50% is cooled down to 25C. Find the changes in enthalpy, relative humidity,
and wet-bulb temperature.

8. Referring to Problem 7, find the new values for enthalpy, relative humidity, and humidity ratio when
the air is cooled to 15C.

9. In an air-conditioning unit 3.5 m3/s of air at 27C dry-bulb temperature, 50 percent relative humidity,
and standard atmospheric pressure enters the unit. The leaving condition of the air is 13C dry-bulb
temperature and 90 percent relative humidity.
(a) Calculate the refrigerating capacity in kilowatts and
(b) determine the ratio of water removal from the air.

10. Ait at 15C, RH 40% is heated and humidified to 25C, RH 50%. Find the values for the enthalpy and
humidity ratio of the air at the initial and the final states.

11. A stream of outdoor air is mixed with a stream of return air in an air-conditioning system that operates
at 101 kPa pressure. The flow rate of outdoor air is 20 m3/min, and its condition is 32C dry-bulb
temperature and 40 percent relative humidity. The flow rate of return air is 25 m3/min, and its condition
is 12C and 90 percent relative humidity. Determine
(a) the enthalpy of the mixture,
(b) the humidity ratio of the mixture, and
(c) the dry-bulb temperature of the mixture
