1.Topic Identification:

1.1 Problem Statement:


Loans and Advances Management of Janata Bank Limited: A Study on Dhakeshwari Road
Branch.

1.2 Introduction:
Janata Bank Limited gives us opportunity to explore the world of progressive Banking in
Bangladesh. It is a state owned commercial bank and is catering the need of the mass business
people. It was corporatized on 15th November 2007.

Janata Bank Limited is the 2nd largest State Owned Commercial Bank (SCB) in Bangladesh, is
playing great role in overall financial activities of the country. The Bank formed as Janata Bank
by combining the United Bank Limited and Union Bank Limited under the Banks
Nationalization Order (Presidents Order -26) of 1972 and was restructured as a limited company
in November, 2007. Since inception in 1972 the Bank has commendably contributed to the
socio-economic development of Bangladesh and helped structuring solid financial ground of the
country as well. Janata Bank runs its business with 908 branches across the country including 4
overseas branches in United Arab Emirates. Janata Bank Limited, one of the state owned
commercial banks in Bangladesh, has an authorized capital of Tk 30,000.00 million , paid up
capital of Tk. 19140.00 million, reserve of Tk. 22,897.39 million. The Bank has a total asset of Tk.
683,157.58 million as on 31st December 2015. Immediately after the emergence of Bangladesh
in 1971, the erstwhile United Bank Limited and Union Bank Limited were renamed as Janata
Bank. On 15th November, 2007 the bank has been corporatized and renamed as Janata Bank
Limited.

1.3 Purpose of the study:

Internship is an integral part of MBA(Evening) program. The object of the internship program is
to expose the students to organizational work environment. This program is also enables to
compare their academic knowledge with the practical application. As a student of faculty of
business of Jagannath University Dhaka, I get an opportunity to go through such a program. I
have assigned to work as an officer in Janata Bank Limited. In my working period, I will get an
opportunity to work in all the departments especially in loans and advances management section
in Janata Bank limited. With my supervisors consent I start to work on the topic Loans and
Advances Management of Janata Bank Limited.
2. Objectives of the Study:
This report will be prepared taking under consideration of the general objective and specific
objectives, these are as follows:

2.1 Major Objective:

To evaluate the loans and advances management section of Janata Bank Limited.

To understand companys loans and advances management related operations.

2.2 Additional Objectives


To acquire the knowledge about the activities of accounts section of the Janata Bank Ltd.

To know about the accounts department and accounting system of Janata Bank Ltd.

To gain extensive knowledge about organizational environment in a professional


manner .

3. Significance of the Study:

Methodology is an essential part of the study. It is designed in a way so that, it corresponds to


achieve the objects of the study. All the information incorporated in this report has been collected
both from the primary sources as well as the secondary sources .

4.1 Primary sources:


A lot of the required information comes from primary sources.
These sources are:
Face to face discussion with senior Finance & Accounting Managers .
Accounts personnel of Janata Bank Limited.
Practical working experiences .
4.2 Secondary Sources:
I will also use secondary data for preparing this report. Data are collected from published
material, like:
Internal Brochures
Books of Accounts & related documents
Internet
Relevant books, Manuals and Journals
Janata Bank Website.

5. Scope & Limitations of the Study:

5.2 Limitations:
I will try my best to prepare a very comprehensive and a well-organized report but I cannot claim
that it is perfect and flawless. There are still some limitations present here.

Lack of experience in preparing this sort of report.


Some informations are confidential and not available in the market.
All the necessary data cannot be found in published or any other form.
Lake of continuity of information also put me in a troublesome situation.
Time limitation.
