Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 11 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs)

Year 11 students will be taking their PPEs between Monday 6 and Friday 10 March 2017. The timetable
can be viewed at www.isleworthsyon.org/examinations (Timetables tab). Your child has also received his
Individual Candidate Timetable yesterday.

The rules and regulations governing examinations and controlled assessments, which schools and
students are required to follow, are established by JCQCIC, which represents the seven largest national
awarding bodies offering qualifications in the UK. To ensure that students understand their responsibilities
and comply with the rules, JCQ has produced the following documents, which students need to read and
understand. They are available on the school website at www.isleworthsyon.org/examinations.

1. Information for Candidates Guidelines When Referring to Examinations/Assessments through

the Internet (Social Media)
2. Information for Candidates Controlled Assessments
3. Information for Candidates Written Examinations
4. Information for Candidates Onscreen tests (for students taking BTECs)
5. Information for Candidates Privacy Notice
6. Information for Candidates Non-Examination Assessments
7. Information for Candidates - Coursework

Please read these carefully with your son/ward and ensure that he is clear about what is expected of him.
Breaches of these rules could lead to disqualification in the subject concerned or even in all subjects in
certain cases.

Pre-Public examinations are run according to the same rules and regulations. This is to ensure that
examination rooms are silent and that no malpractice occurs, so that all students have the opportunity to
perform to the best of their ability. Therefore, if any student breaks the rules they will be removed from the
examination and their mark will be cancelled. Key points to note are that:

Students must be silent at all times when in an examination or when entering or being dismissed
from an examination room.
Mobile phones and electronically-enabled devices, such as smart watches, are forbidden.
Students arriving late may not get the full time for the examination.

For many morning and afternoon examinations, staff may run warm-up sessions in classrooms - students
should speak to their teacher about this. Make sure that you consult the digital signage screens and the
printed lists around the school so that you are in the right place. As a general rule before each examination,
students should line up in the canteen by the times below:

If you have any questions about examinations, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs L Robinson
