SITUATION

Options for denominations should be given by ATM?

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

Adam visited the ATM to withdraw 2000 rupees. He was expecting that ATM will release 3

notes of 500 rupees and 5 notes of 100 rupees. But the machine simply gave him a single note

of 2000 rupee.

The above story reveals a problem which is faced by almost everyone in their day to day life

that is the problem of denominations released by ATMs. We want larger amount in the form

of small denominations but we mostly get large denomination only.

To deal with this problem, an option for denominations should be introduced in ATM. Before

implementing the solution, opinion of the common people is required.

So this report will tell about

The symptoms of the problem

The research design used
The research questionnaire that will help in getting the opinion of common people
Hypothesis used and so on.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The general objective of the study is to determine and identify the problem of denominations

at ATMs. The specific objectives are to:

i. Analyse customers knowledge on ATM services.

ii. Determine customers perception on the benefits and problems associated with ATM

services.
iii. Determine the strategies customers prefer in order to improve ATM services

patronage.
iv. To evaluate the users opinion on use of ATMs rather than visiting their respective

banks branches
v. To know the frequency of use of ATM.
vi. The main objective of the study was to seek and measure the level of customer

satisfaction and services rendered by the banking industry in terms of availability of

denominations at ATMs.
vii. Examine the impact of customer's dissatisfaction on the use of ATM.
viii. Examine the causes of transaction failures in usage of Automated Teller Machines.
ix. Assesses the level of awareness of customers of the ATM failed transaction due to

absence of desired denominations.

The questionnaire framed for the purpose of the above research is as follows:

Gender *

o Male

o Female

Occupation *

Do you have a bank account? *

o Yes

o No

Do you prefer using the ATM machine rather going to the branch?
o Yes

o No

If yes, why so?

How frequent do you use the ATM?

o Daily

o Weekly

o Monthly

o Yearly

Do you use your bank's ATM or any bank's ATM?

o Own

o Any

Do you get your desired denominations?

o Yes

o No

Does your ATM machine ask for denominations?

o Yes

o No

In your opinion, should ATMs be revised with an option asking for the

denominations?

o Yes

o No

Any other suggestions?

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

Hypothesis is a specific statement of prediction. It describes in concrete (rather than

theoretical) terms what you expect will happen in your study. Not all studies have hypotheses.

Sometimes a study is designed to be exploratory. There is no formal hypothesis, and perhaps

the purpose of the study is to explore some area more thoroughly in order to develop some

specific hypothesis or prediction that can be tested in future research.

Specific statement explaining relationships, usually involving two variables, and including

the direction of the relationship.

In our research problem we have identified following Hypothesis:-

H1: Government and banks should take initiatives for the problem of denominations.

H2: If ATMs start facility ask for denominations and and if public will have in long queue for

that purpose will they support or not.

H3: There may be possible that more new people start using ATM facility with this feature.

RESEAECH DESIGN

A research design is one that minimizes bias and maximizes the reliability of the data. It also

yields maximum information, gives minimum experimental error, and provide different

aspect for single problem. A research design depends on the purpose and nature of the

research problem. Thus one single design cannot be used to solve all type of research

problem, i.e. particular design is suitable for particular problem.

Research design is a selection of basic research method.

The design of a study defines the study type (descriptive, correlational, semi-experimental,

experimental, review, meta-analytic) and sub-type (e.g., descriptive-longitudinal case

study), research problem, hypotheses, independent and dependent variables, experimental

design, and, if applicable, data collection methods and a statistical analysis plan.

Research design is the framework that has been created to find answers to research questions.

Research design is done through following ways

1> Experiment- Laboratory
- Field

2> Survey- Interview

-Questionnaire

3> Observation

4> Secondary Data Research

In our Research problem we have used Survey in Research Design and in survey we have

used Questionnaire covering every important point as the questions was not very clear. Then

we have used observation technique to observe the result and later we have used experiment

laboratory technique to analyse the data.

Its only half way, the research will continue and more questions will be covered.
