INSPECTION/EXAMINATION PROCEDURE-
LIFTING BEAM

PURPOSE
To define the procedural requirements for Examination of Lifting Beams.

SCOPE
This procedure shall apply to all Lifting Beams Examination conducted by TGRL
personnel on behalf of the Client.

DEFINITIONS
SHALL Signifies a mandatory requirement.

CLIENT The Company engaging TGRL on a project

SWL Safe Working Load is the maximum load which


any item of lifting equipment may raise, lower or
suspend under particular service conditions.

EXAMINATION / Report issued by the company giving the results


INSPECTION REPORT of the examination / inspection. This will detail
the defects found or acceptance that the item is
fit for intended use at the time of examination /
inspection or test.

CERTIFICATE OF Certificate issued by the company to the client


CONFORMITY OR giving details of the examination / inspection or
TEST / PROOF LOAD test and thorough examination conducted on
lifting equipment or part there of certifying its
fitness for intended use at the time of
examination / inspection or test. The competent
person who conducted the examination shall sign
this certificate.

COMPANY Tracespec Global Resources Ltd.

THOROUGH Examination carried out by a competent person


EXAMINATION to detect damage or deterioration.

PROOF OR TEST Load applied by the competent person for the

COMPETENT Person who has the practical and theoretical

Examination Thorough Examination (Visual)

The thorough examination will comprise of but not limited to the following:

1.0 Examination Procedure

1.1 Prior to commencing the examination removes all lifting attachments and
examines in accordance with the relevant examination procedures.
1.2 Examine the lifting beam for wear, impact damage bending, distortion and
corrosion; ensure that all fixing bolts are correctly fitted and secure, that all
welds are intact and free from cracks.
1.3 Examine lifting points for wear, distortions, elongation and cracks.
1.4 Ensure that all holes in lifting points are not too large for the shackle pins
as this could cause stress due to point loading.
1.5 Ensure that the lifting points are in the same plane as the load being lifted.

2.0 If any faults are found at the time of examination, which affect
the safe use of the item, then it would must be withdrawn from
service and details recorded on the Inspection Report

Test New, Repair, Modification

1.0 Testing Procedure

1.1 Carry out Pre and Post NDT Examination of the lifting points and any other
load bearing weldments.
1.2 Apply the proof load are per Table 1 according to the frame/beam SWL.
1.3 Examine the beam for any defects after the proof load test.
1.4 When all completed hard stamp ID No, SWL, Test Date on unit and issue
certification and NDT Report.
