STAGES OF THE LESSON:

Warm-up activity
Time: 5 minutes
Interaction: teacher the class
Aims: to organize the class
to check and correct the students homework about the lives of the chosen personalities
(done in groups)
Activity 1: Lead-in
Time: 10 minutes
Interaction: T-Ss, pair work
Aim: to activate words related to the description of the cameraman job.
Procedure:
The students need to know that being descriptive about something is very important and
will be used on a daily basis, particularly when speaking to a foreigner. I explain them that there
may be a specific job that they like and may want to apply for and they need certain abilities to
fit it. I check the understanding of the lesson title and then I introduce the job of cameraman
and ask the students to brainstorm ideas about being a cameraman (wonderful, challenging,
interesting, dangerous, threatening, amazing, expensive, stressful, tiring, etc.) and motivate their
choice.
Activity 2: Reading for getting details (skimming and scanning a text)
Time: 10 minutes
Interaction: teacher - students - class
Aim: - to get the students read the text and understand details
-to have them work in pairs
Procedure:
The students are asked to read the questions before reading the text to know what to look
for while reading it. They have to read, resume it and give their opinion about Jeff Carter, a
successful cameraman. Any unknown words will be explained if necessary.
Activity 3: Listening to an interview A dream come true
Time: 10 minutes
Interaction: teacher-students; pair work
Aim: - to get the students listen to an interview
-to have them complete the sentences in pairs
Procedure:
I pre-teach a few words that I consider relevant to understand the listening task
The students are asked to take a look at the sentences they are going to fill in with information
heard in the interview about a woman who went through a very strange experience.
The students are encouraged to pay attention to the way the interview is realized because they
have to make one afterwards
Activity 4 Making and role-playing an interview
Time: 20 minutes
Interaction: teacher students; group work, Ss.-Ss., whole class activity
Aim: - to get them obtain a kind of fluency in speaking
-to make them interact through questions and answers
Procedure:
The students are asked to imagine that they are a person who is well known to the students; the
personality they chose to write some things about as a homework will be the interviewee in the
group; That person is at a press conference; the students from the groups are the journalists. The
interviewee is advised to invite his group colleagues to ask questions; the interviewee, of course,
has to improvise answers, as convincingly as he can or he can make use of the information he
wrote about the personality he chose to be. After the first time, another student from the group
can take over the role of the 'interviewee', choosing his own identity. It is helpful to allow the
students a minute or two to jot down ideas for questions before starting the 'interview or to
choose some of those I provided them with on worksheets.
I ask my students to role play the situation in groups in which two are the interviewers
who asks the questions, one is the interviewee who gives answers while another classmate writes
down the answers and who is going to report about their interview to the class.
Activity 5: home assignment
Time: 5 minutes
Interaction: teacher students
Aim: - to give the students marks and assess them
-to work out together the mistakes
-to explain the homework
Procedure: All the students are congratulated for their contribution to the lesson and some of
them are given marks. As a homework, the students are asked to interview their best friend.
